    Abstract: The present invention relates to a technique of encoding each data unit (for example, a block data) of an image and simultaneously, its relevant information indicative of a coding mode of the data unit. In particular, each data unit of the image is encoded in accordance with either the information indicative of a coding mode of each of data units which are highly correlated in space or time to the data unit to be encoded or pixels in decoded data units. Accordingly, the encoding of the image will be executed at higher efficiency.
