  • Patent number: 6138684
Abstract: The paper for rolling a smoking article of the present invention contains particle-form calcium carbonate (30 to 60 wt %), calcined clay (5 to 30 wt %) and pulp. Furthermore, an alkaline metal salt is contained as a chemical additive. In addition, kaolin is contained in the paper. The basis weight of the paper falls within the range of 20 to 70 g/m.sup.2. Optical characteristics of the paper and the burning characteristics and ash characteristics of a cigarette are improved and the side stream smoke is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5464028
Abstract: A vented filter cigarette with a filter having a fiber filter material and a plug wrap paper wrapping the fiber filter material, a tobacco rod, and tipping paper having a plurality of pores and connecting the filter and the tobacco rod. An embossment is formed in a region of the plug wrap paper corresponding to the pores of the tipping paper. The embossment creates a slight gap between the tipping paper and the circumference of the filter around the pores, with the result that the tightness between the tipping paper and the circumference of the filter is loosened, the filter ventilation is increased, and the variation in the filter ventilation is decreased.

  • Patent number: 5394895
Abstract: The vented filter cigarette is produced by combining a filter having a highly air-permeable circumferential surface and a tipping paper having a plurality of pores. The tipping paper has an embossment in the area of the pores formed therein. The embossment serves to create a slight gap between the tipping paper and the circumferential surface of the filter, by which the tightness therebetween is loosened. Thus, the filter ventilation is increased, and the variation in the degree of the ventilation can be reduced.
