  • Patent number: 5777330
Abstract: Infrared spectroscopy for rapidly identifying the kind of a plastic product on the spot. The surface of the plastic product is partially pyrolyzed in a quite short time to produce pyrolysis product gas. The gas is introduced into an infrared spectrophotometer to obtain an infrared absorption spectrum of the gas. The spectrum is collated with a pyrolysis infrared absorption spectrum of a standard sample. Thus, the plastic is identified. A heating probe comprising a heat radiation emitter mounted in the body of the probe, an opening formed in the body of the probe, an aperture formed in the body and located opposite to the opening, a reflecting mirror for directing the radiation into the opening, and a conduit for connecting thin ports in the probe with the spectrophotometer and with an external carrier gas source. The heat radiation emitter emits heat radiation for pyrolyzing the surface of the plastic product. The mirror is located near the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5103173
Abstract: Permeameter suited for measuring permeability of a small, non-magnetic (i.e., the permeability value is close to 1) object. The probe of the permeameter is of the differential transformer type with an exciting coil and two detecting coils placed at both ends of the exciting coil. The difference in the outputs of the detecting coils is analyzed and the effect of the eddy current is effectively eliminated, whereby the signal representing the permeability of the object is extracted from the difference signal by the phase shift analysis. By reducing the distance between the two detecting coils, the influence of the disturbance of the eddy current at the boundary of the object sample is minimized and the permeameter can measure a small object sample without sacrificing accuracy and sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 4720790
Abstract: A rear wheel steer angle controlling apparatus for vehicles having steerable front and rear wheels, adapted for controlling the steer angle of rear wheels in response to the operation of the steering wheel for steering the front wheels. When the steering wheel is operated quickly, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the counter direction to the direction of the front wheel steer angle, so that the response to the steering input for turning the vehicle is improved. Conversely, when the steering wheel is operated slowly, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the same direction as the front wheel steer angle, thus enhancing the stability of the vehicle running straight. When the vehicle is running at a high speed, the rear wheel steer angle is formed always in the same direction as the front wheel steer angle regardless of the speed of operation of the steering wheel, so that the steering stability during high speed running is improved.

  • Patent number: 4700960
Abstract: A rear wheel steer angle controlling apparatus for vehicles having steerable front and rear wheels, adapted for controlling the steer angle or rear wheels in response to the operation of the steering wheel for steering the front wheels. The speed with which the steering wheel is turned is detected and compared with a reference value which varies in accordance with changes in a physical amount related to the vehicle velocity. When the speed of operation of the steering wheel is larger than the reference value, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the counter direction to the direction of the front wheel steer angle, so that the response to the steering input for turning the vehicle is improved. Conversely, when the speed of operation of the steering wheel is smaller than the reference value, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the same direction as the front wheel steer angle, thus enhancing the stability of the vehicle running straight.
