  • Patent number: 7762581
Abstract: The head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag folded up in an elongative contour for covering a window of vehicle upon deployment, and a plurality of cases arranged along the length direction of the folded-up airbag for housing the airbag. The airbag apparatus is mounted on the vehicle by attaching mounting portions of the airbag along an upper periphery of the window together with the cases. The cases are connected by a bendable connecting member and thereby permitting the airbag stored in the cases to be transported in a bent state at the connecting member. The connecting member announces the occurrence of twisting of the airbag between the cases by shortening the distance between the cases for preventing the airbag from being mounted on the vehicle in a twisted state when the airbag apparatus is unfolded for mounting on the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6481742
Abstract: An air bag system has an air bag, an inflator for inflating the air bag, the inflator having a first end and a second end with a flange portion, a casing for receiving the air bag and the inflator, the casing including an air bag receiving casing and an inflator receiving casing, and a cover portion for covering an opening portion of the casing. A pair of fitting holes are formed in two wall surfaces of the inflator receiving casing opposite to each other and the fitting holes are substantially equal in diameter to each other so that the inflator can be fitted into the fitting holes. The first end of the inflator is engaged with a first fitting hole through a spacer while the second end of the inflator is connected to a second fitting hole through the flange portion, and a position regulating member is provided in one of the casing and the spacer for preventing the inflator from shifting in position.

  • Patent number: 6299196
Abstract: The invention is an air bag apparatus in which an air bag module comprises a cover member, and a main body holding an inflator and a folded air bag. The cover includes depending side walls and at least a pair of coupling bars caused to integrate the cover member and to the main body. The arrangement eliminates the need for riveting a cover member to the main body and reduces the number of steps required in an assembly operation. The cover member includes a pair of attaching leg portions that are fitted to the outer side of the main body. The attaching leg portions each includes a plurality of engaging holes. The main body includes a plurality of engaging projections corresponding to the engaging holes. Each of the engaging projections includes a lock hole, opened at least to a lower side, and disposed on the outer side of the attaching leg portion of the cover member when the engaging projection is fitted to the engaging hole. Each of the coupling bars includes a fixed seat portion.

  • Patent number: 5427408
Abstract: A process is provided for molding a pad for an air bag device. The pad has a cover portion, a hinge portion disposed near one edge thereof, and a bracket portion extending from the hinge portion at an angle with respect to the cover portion. The pad is provided with a flexible reinforcing insert embedded therein, extending from the bracket portion to the cover portion through the hinge portion. The insert is set in a mold, while the mold is open, so that the insert may be held in position by pins projecting from the mold into that portion of a mold cavity which forms the bracket portion of the pad. After the mold is closed, a molding material is injected into the mold cavity through a gate connected to that edge of the cavity which forms the one edge of the cover portion of the pad. A pad formed by the process is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5366240
Abstract: An air bag device is provided including an air bag 1, an inflator 5, and a casing 7 including an upper case member and a lower case member, surrounding the air bag and the inflator. The lower case member 16 and auxiliary plates 18 form fitting recesses 17 at the connecting portion 16a of the lower case member which open upwardly. Tongue pieces 10 are formed at the connecting portion 9a of the upper case member near the gas jetting outlets 6 of the inflator in such a manner that they are extended downwardly from the upper case member. The tongue pieces 10 are inserted into the fitting recesses 17 to form the casing. The auxiliary plates 18 are pushed against the tongue pieces 10 by the pressure of gas jetted from the gas jetting outlets 6.
