  • Patent number: 6611919
Abstract: A computer system and methods for determining whether to compress the content of memory in a computer system, optionally including video memory, prior to storing the contents of memory within a non-volatile storage device prior to entering a hibernation mode where power is disabled to memory. An evaluation of the actual performance of computer system speed in storing and retrieving a file having the content of memory and decompressing the file is made to determine whether time is saved as a result of reducing the size of the file by compressing as compared to the time to compress and decompress the file. The evaluation of actual computer system performance takes place after each exit from hibernation mode and a determination is made whether to compress the content of memory the next time a hibernation mode request occurs in response to that evaluation.

  • Patent number: 5768568
Abstract: An information processing system and method is disclosed that can automatically establish a software environment suitable for a hardware configuration without the operator's intervention even if the hardware configuration for the information processing system changes. This is accomplished by establishing a file of system configurations describing the data for any previously established software system environment. The file is stored in the information processing system and is changed based on any hardware changes so that the software system configuration can also change.

  • Patent number: 5557458
Abstract: A real image mode finder optical system includes an objective lens, a relay lens, and an eyepiece. A plurality of reflecting surfaces is arranged between the objective lens and the eyepiece. At least one of the reflecting surfaces is movable for deflecting an optical axis, and thereby an optical component disposed behind this reflecting surface is moved in accordance with the deflected optical axis. Thus, a variable angle is provided in a wide range from an eye level to a waist level.

  • Patent number: 5499053
Abstract: An image observing apparatus capable of reducing reflections caused by incoming light. The apparatus includes an image display such as a liquid crystal cell with at least one optical system disposed between the image display and the observer's eye. A polarizing element is disposed between the optical system and the observer's eye. The apparatus is suited for use with electronic view finders, such as those used with video cameras. Because of the location of the polarizing element, incoming light and incoming light reflected from optical surfaces in the apparatus are decreased in intensity without any attenuation of the light forming the image. Thus, the visibility of the image is improved.
