  • Patent number: 4704772
Abstract: A snap-fit clasp fastener includes a catch member and a reel-shaped retainer member releasably couplable to connect portions of a bag to close an opening in the bag. The catch member includes a body having an underside engageable with one portion of the bag, a pair of resiliently flexible legs projecting from one end of the body in a common direction, and a grip head extending from an opposite end of the body in parallel with the legs. The resilient legs have a pair of confronting arcuate recessed portions, respectively, for snappingly receiving therein a cylindrical retaining portion of the retainer member to lock the catch and retainer members in coupled condition. The grip head is spaced a distance from the underside of the body for easy and stable manipulation of the catch member.

  • Patent number: 4672725
Abstract: A buckle comprises a male member having a pair of resilient legs releasably engageable with a socket portion of a female member to couple the male and female members, the female member having a pair of cantilevered resilient arms resiliently flexible toward each other to urge the legs out of interlocking engagement with the socket portion. The arms are disposed between a pair of opposed plates of the socket member and have stop fingers loosely received in apertures in one of the plates. With this construction, the resilient arms are protected against damage or breakage when subjected to forces tending to flex the arms in a direction either parallel to or perpendicular to the general plane of the socket portion. The male member includes a generally U-shaped reinforcing rib disposed between and connected with the legs with a U-shaped slit defined therebetween so as to increase the resiliency of the legs.

  • Patent number: 4665592
Abstract: In a swivel snap hook of synthetic resin, a unitary hook member has a hook body and a resiliently deformable closure tongue molded integrally therewith, a free end of the closure tongue being, as the latter is in a free form, disposed inwardly of a free end of the hook body with a relatively small gap therebetween. In use, as the closure tongue is depressed inwardly against its resilience by a ring-shaped article to be threaded onto the hook body, the free end of the closure tongue is spaced wider from the free end of the hook body to open the latter. In production, the unitary hook member is molded on a specific mold in such a state or condition that the free end of the closure tongue is disposed inwardly of the free end of the hook body with the small gap therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4664574
Abstract: An eyelet assembly comprising a plastic eyelet body including a hollow cylindrical portion and a flange formed on the upper end of the cylindrical portion and a plastic seat plate including a center hole in which the cylindrical portion of the eyelet body is fitted is disclosed. The eyelet body includes a plurality of vertically spaced arcuate projections of a predetermined thickness formed on the external peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion. The seat plate includes an engaging portion formed along the inner peripheral edge of the center hole for engaging the projections of the eyelet body. Each of the arcuate projections extends by an angular distance which is less than a quarter of the circumference of the cylindrical portion and the arcuate projections at vertically adjacent levels are staggered horizontally so that they do not vertically overlap each other when viewed from the front side of the eyelet body.

  • Patent number: 4637099
Abstract: A molded strap fastener of a generally rectangular shape includes a first cross bar for retaining therearound a looped end portion of a strap, a retainer portion disposed laterally adjacent to the cross bar and frictionally engageable with the strap end portion, and a second cross bar fixedly connected to the other strap end. The first cross bar includes a pair of diametrically opposite sharp corners and the retainer portion has a sharp corner, these sharp corners serving as stops to retain the strap in position against accidental displacement even under heavy tensioning forces. To provide a greater resistance to strap loosening, the first and second cross bars lie in different levels so that a rotational force is created upon the fastener when the latter is in actual use, said force growing greater the larger the tension and thus urging the retainer portion to firmly grip the strap end at its sharp corner.

The female member includes an attachment and a tubular member in which the central base can be inserted. The tubular member has fingers lockingly engageable with end surfaces of the engagment portions. The engagement portions have teeth disposed respectively on the end surfaces thereof. The central base has stop pawls disposed outwardly of the teeth and extending toward the end surfaces beyond ends of the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4608735
Abstract: A molded sliding bar buckle of the type comprising a strap retainer bar slidably mounted on an open rectangular connector frame having a grip base and a connecting bar on opposite sides of the strap retainer bar. The strap retainer bar includes a central strap engagement portion for retaining therearound one end portion of a strap and having on its back a sloped flat or substantially flat surface facing away from the grip base. The sloped surface has an upper end disposed adjacent to the connecting portion and a lower end disposed adjacent to the grip base, the upper end lying in a plane extending through a center of the thickness of the strap engagement portion. With this construction, when the strap is longitudinally tensioned with its one end portion looped around the strap engagement portion, a tensioning force is transformed substantially into a force or a vector acting in said plane in a direction to tend to move the strap retainer bar linearly toward the grip base.

  • Patent number: 4599767
Abstract: A swivel snap hook molded of synthetic resin comprising only two pieces, i.e. an eye member and a hook member, which are connected to each other for pivotal movements. One of the eye and hook members has an integral bearing portion divided into a pair of opposed bearing halves by a space, the two bearing halves having a pair of aligned through-holes communicating with the space. The other member has an integral arm portion extending into the space and terminating in an enlarged end which is loosely received in the through-holes in the bearing halves across the space for rocking movements. In production, the eye and hook members are molded simultaneously molded in only one step of molding operation in coupled state.

  • Patent number: 4577377
Abstract: A buckle comprises a male member including a pair of resiliently flexible legs each having an abutment surface, and a female member having a socket portion releasably couplable with said legs and including a pair of spaced sidewalls defining therebetween a slot for receiving therein said legs, each of the sidewalls having a retaining surface engageable with the abutment surface to interlock the male and female members. The socket portion further has a pair of cantilevered arms disposed inwardly of the sidewalls and resiliently flexible toward and away from the sidewalls. An actuating lug is disposed on a distal end of each arm which is located outside of the slot, the lug being engageable with one of the legs. The arms are resiliently flexible toward each other to cause the actuating lugs to urge the legs to flex resiliently toward each other for bringing the abutment surface and the retaining surface out of engagement with one another.

  • Patent number: 4571783
Abstract: A strap fastener or buckle for connecting ends of a strap, belt or the like is adapted to enable adjustment of the effective length of the strap. The strap fastener is formed from a plastic material into an integrally molded structure having a grip head portion at one end and a connecting portion at the opposite end, these portions being connected by a pair of side flanges. A pair of spaced parallel cross bars extend between and are connected to the side flanges. The grip head portion has a sharply cornered bottom edge which serves as a stop for the strap. The cross bar which is disposed adjacent to the grip head portion has a plurality of sharp corners defining stops for the strap, one of the corners being disposed adjacent to the grip head portion and being spaced in plan view from the bottom edges by a distance larger than the thickness of the strap. The strap fastener is thus provided with multi-point stops along the path of the strap so that the strap can be retained firmly in place under heavy tension.

  • Patent number: 4539735
Abstract: A snap-fit buttom assembly comprises a female and a male member both molded and adapted to be coupled together with a snap-fit and a pair of tack members adapted to be joined with the female and male members for attachment thereof to a pair of fabric pieces separately. The female member, which is composed of a circular plate-like base and a cylindrical socket integral therewith, has along its periphery a plurality of openings each extending through the base and merging with the socket's bore receptive of a plug of the male member. The openings are angularly aligned, about the axis of the female member, with a plurality of inwardly directed locking projections of the socket. In production, the female member can be molded on a pair of mold halves; one mold half for shaping the base has a plurality of projections each having a contour corresponding to the shape of the individual opening.
