  • Patent number: 9649332
Abstract: The present invention provides a composition comprising a polymer of a ?-hydroxy short-medium chain fatty acid, which is used for delivering the ?-hydroxy short-medium chain fatty acid or an oligomer thereof to the large intestine. In case the composition is administrated orally, the composition will be delivered to the large intestine, without being degraded in the stomach or short intestine, and degraded by the large intestinal bacterial flora and release the short-medium chain fatty acid or an oligomer thereof. The released short-medium chain fatty acid or an oligomer thereof has useful physiological activities and is effective for treating or preventing inflammatory diseases or cancer in the large intestine.

  • Patent number: 7582305
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a safe antidiarrheal agent and a method for suppressing diarrhea by which an efficient antidiarrheal effect is achieved without using antibiotics or synthetic antibacterial agents that have been conventionally used against infections in livestock and poultry. Antibiotic-resistant pathogenic infections can also be prevented and treated by the present invention. The antidiarrheal agent for livestock and poultry comprising heat-killed bacteria of Enterococcus faecalis EC-12 (FERM ABP-10284) or a treated product thereof as an active ingredient is orally administered to livestock and poultry, particularly to breast-feeding sows and piglets around the weaning period.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20090118226
Abstract: To promote the growth of human beings or animals, prevent the onset of diarrhea and prevent or ameliorate various diseases, it is intended to provide a substance which has an effect of decreasing eosinophils in the intestinal tract and a feed comprising the same as a feed additive. Namely, an intestinal eosinophil-suppressing composition which contains an ?-linked galactooligosaccharide as the active ingredient. When added in an amount of from 0.01 to 10% by weight, in terms of the saccharide, to an animal feed, this composition is useful in providing an intestinal eosinophil-suppressing feed.

  • Publication number: 20080206380
Abstract: The present invention is to provide an agent for preventing and treating drug-resistant bacterial infection for livestock/fowls or fish and shellfish, using particular microbial agents as active components, without using synthetic antibacterial substances or antibiotics, and a method for preventing and treating its infection. By using lactic acid bacteria, their dead bacteria or treated substances thereof, or Mygasphaera elsdenii as active components, for an agent for preventing and treating drug-resistant bacterial infection for livestock/fowls or fish and shellfish carrying or being infected by drug-resistant bacteria such as Vancomycin, particularly by using Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium as lactic acid bacteria, the above mentioned object was resolved.
