  • Publication number: 20030160541
Abstract: A surface acoustic wave (SAW) device includes a piezoelectric substrate, and on this substrate there are provided comb electrodes for forming an inter digital transducer (IDT), reflector electrodes placed closely along a traveling direction of a surface wave generated by the IDT, and a frame-like short-circuited auxiliary electrode having a width varying depending on its portions. This structure allows to uniform electric charges overall the electrode-surfaces, where the electric charges are generated in a heat treatment applied to the piezoelectric substrate during the manufacturing of the SAW device. Thus even after the device is diced into pieces, this structure can prevent damages of the electrodes or degradation in electrical properties due to an electric discharge generated by accumulated electric charges caused by pyroelectricity of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6476691
Abstract: A SAW filter comprising a piezoelectric substrate and at least two filter tracks formed on the substrate, each having at least two IDT electrodes for input and output. The two filter tracks have substantially the same phase within a pass band, while it is substantially inverse-phased outside the pass band. For realizing the above-described conditions, input IDT electrode of one filter track is connected in parallel with input IDT electrode of the other filter track, while output IDT electrode of one filter track is connected in parallel with output IDT electrode of the other filter track. Furthermore, frequency values of said two filter tracks substantially coincide at a point 3 dB lower from the peak transfer function value. Thus the above-configured SAW filter of the present invention is smaller in the overall size and offers a broad pass band and a steep attenuation characteristic.

  • Patent number: 6469598
Abstract: A surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter is disclosed which comprises a piezoelectric substrate and at least two Interdigital Transducers (IDTs) having four fingered electrodes in a region corresponding to one-wavelength of SAW excited on the piezoelectric substrate. At least one IDT is formed of at least one pair of fingered electrodes having different electrode widths. By provision of the pair of fingered electrodes being different in electrode width, the IDT can be given unidirectionality. Thus, a SAW filter producing a low insertion loss and having good amplitude and phase characteristics in the pass-band can be realized. Further, by using such SAW filter, a high-performance and low-cost communication apparatus, such as a CDMA-system mobile telephone, can be realized.

  • Patent number: 6351196
Abstract: Disclosed is a surface acoustic wave filter on a piezoelectric substrate. The filter includes at least two surface acoustic wave resonators that each has a reflector electrode on both sides of an IDT electrode as an inter-digital transducer electrode. At least two of the resonators are disposed on a piezoelectric substrate in positions near each other so that the propagation direction of surface acoustic waves are in parallel to make an acoustic coupling. In an embodiment, the acoustic coupling is a direct coupling. The IDT electrode has a plurality of electrode fingers connected so as not to cancel respective electric charges. The IDT electrode is constituted by at least three divisional IDT electrodes. A pair of the electrode fingers can have a reverse phase relation with respect to each other. Also, in a multi-stage surface acoustic wave filter, the electrode fingers can be included in an upper IDT electrode of a top stage of the filter, and in a lower IDT electrode of a bottom stage of such filter.
