  • Patent number: 5406062
Abstract: After serial signals output from a CCD sensor are amplified, a peak value of white levels corresponding to the space portions of bar codes is held by a peak hold circuit, and then the held peak value is converted into a digital value by an analog-to-digital conversion circuit. The value obtained by multiplying accumulation time data from the CCD sensor by the target value of the white level peak value is divided by the digital value. The next accumulation time of the CCD sensor is set on the basis of the result of this division. In this way, the sensitivity of the scanner is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5382782
Abstract: A circuit for adjusting the sensitivity of an optical character reader in which light is applied to an information-recorded material by an LED array and the information is read by a line sensor. The optical character reader is switched to a sensitivity adjusting mode. It reads a reference material having uniform reflectivity on the surface. The read signal is A/D converted and the microcomputer 10 detects a discrepancy between the amounts of light depending on the different portions of the line sensor. Based upon the detection, the microcomputer sets the applying time of driving currents to the respective LEDs so that the light is uniformly applied to the reference material. The set value is stored in a memory. Thereafter, since the amounts of light from the LEDs of the LED array are adjusted according to the set value, the amount of the reflected light to the line sensor 5 can be uniform. Thus, a series analog voltage accurately responding to the darkness and brightness of the information can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5336874
Abstract: A bar code reader includes a line sensor having a scanning range large enough to scan two or more bar codes. A portion of the scanning range having a size corresponding to a single bar code is determined as a reading range. A reading range comparator 35 determines when a bar code is positioned within the reading range, so that no other bar code within the scanning range will be read. The reader also has error detection to determine whether counted numbers of bars fall within a permissible range for a given bar code symbology.

  • Patent number: 5325073
Abstract: An amplifying apparatus provided by the present invention comprises a direct-coupled inverting amplifier and an alternating-current feedback circuit as well as a direct-current feedback circuit connected between input and output terminals of the direct-coupled inverting amplifier, wherein the direct-current feedback circuit comprises an operating-point extracting circuit for extracting a direct-current component and a bias-voltage generator having a direct-current signal gain larger than an alternating-current signal gain thereof and a direct-current operating bias voltage of the direct-coupled inverting amplifier is set by using a signal output by the bias-voltage generator. Such a configuration enables the amplifying apparatus to offer high-speed operations, a large dynamic range and a highly stable direct-current operating point regardless of the type of a signal input therein and allows an alternating-current signal gain to be set independently of the stability of the direct-current operating point.

  • Patent number: 5243182
Abstract: This invention relates to a photoelectric switch and a photoelectric detector for detecting the presence or absence of an object by using a light, and more particularly to prevention of mutual interference in the case of using a plurality of photoelectric switches. For example, an LED in a light emitting unit intermittently emits a sensing light at the timing of an output pulse from a pulse generator. The resultant pulse is divided in frequency by a frequency divider and then delayed by a one-shot circuit. At the timing of an output pulse from the one-shot circuit, another LED emits a transmission light to a photoelectric switch at next stage. Therefore, the transmission light is always delayed from the sensing light. The transmission light from the preceding photoelectric switch of the same construction is received by a photodiode, and an output pulse is outputted from a pulse generator in synchronism with a synch timing signal produced from the light receiving unit.
