Publication number: 20030042084Abstract: A brake device provided with a hydraulic type brake mechanism in which a piston operated by hydraulic pressure can press a friction member to a rotatable member and an electric type brake mechanism capable of pressing the friction member to the rotatable member by operation of the piston by an electric motor. Further, the brake device includes a force converting mechanism provided at the inside of the piston for converting rotation of an operating shaft connected to the electric motor into movement of the piston in an axial direction of the rotatable member, and a drive portion of the electric brake mechanism having the electric motor and an elastic member arranged substantially coaxially between a pair of opposed rotating members for transmitting rotational force of the electric motor and the operating shaft is connected attachably to and detachably from one of the rotating members.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2002Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazuo Kawase, Masaaki Tanaka, Kimio Takahashi, Yoshihiko Suzuki, Kazuhiro Sekiguchi

Patent number: 6279691Abstract: A force transmitting and converting mechanism for an electric braking device comprising a gear, a nut, a rotating body, a ramp mechanism, a screw member, and a brake element. The gear is rotated by the electric motor, and the nut disposed being opposed to the gear. The rotating body is disposed between the gear and the nut. The ramp mechanism is operated so that the gear and the nut can be separated from each other by a relative rotation of the gear with the nut. The screw member is screwed to the nut, and the brake element is capable of coming into contact with the screw member.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2000Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kimio Takahashi, Kazuo Kawase

Patent number: 5992258Abstract: A mechanism for converting rotational motion to linear motion having a roller thread mechanism interposed between a shaft having multiple male threads and a nut having multiple female threads. The female threads of the nut are opposite in direction to the male threads of the shaft. The rollers have different effective thread diameters which are provided by the shape of the threads on the shaft, rollers and nut. The mechanism is configured so that the axial travel distance of the shaft, per relative rotation of the nut and the shaft, can be shortened. The mechanism is also capable of a fast movement, which is realized by suppressing the rotation of the rollers. When the mechanism is used as an actuator of a brake device, an antilock control, a traction control, and the like, it can be easily implemented by controlling the rotation of the rotor.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1997Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignees: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd., Akebono Research and Development Centre Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Kawase

Patent number: 5934326Abstract: A pressure regulating valve is provided with a first valve for opening and closing a flow channel between a fluid pressure source and a reservoir, and a second valve for opening and closing a flow channel between an output chamber and the reservoir in order to regulate the pressure applied from the fluid pressure source in proportion to an input fluid pressure in an input chamber and to output the regulated pressure from the output chamber. A slidable valve body with one end subjected to an input pressure and the other end subjected to an output pressure, and a one-way valve for allowing communication only from the fluid pressure source to the output chamber are featured in that the movement of the valve body by a given quantity causes the first valve to close after the second valve is closed as the pressure in the input chamber rises.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1998Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignees: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd., Akebono Research and Development Centre Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Kawase

Patent number: 4471858Abstract: In a disc brake, the backing plate of the friction pads is guided and supported by the caliper outside of the brake disc, and both end portions of the backing plate is slidably supported by both end portions, arranged in the circumferential direction, of the ceiling surface which is provided on the caliper so as to mount over the brake disc. A piece extended from the central portion of the peripheral portion of backing plate is inserted into a groove formed in the central portion of the ceiling surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1982Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: Akebono Brake Industries Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Kawase

Patent number: 4290265Abstract: A tandem master cylinder device having a cylinder body slidably receiving therein a driving piston and a floating piston so as to define a first liquid chamber and a second liquid chamber, the device housing a liquid pressure control valve by which a differential in output liquid pressure between a front brake pressure and a rear brake pressure is produced. A stepped piston is mounted on the floating piston to open and close a poppet valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1979Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Assignee: Akebono Brake Industry Co. Patent number: 4257496Abstract: A disc brake of a type incorporating therein a hydraulic pressure generator, the disc brake having a pair of friction pads disposed on both sides of a disc to be braked to confront each other across the disc; a guide shaft; and a caliper which is provided with a thrusting piston incorporated therein for pushing one of the friction pads against the disc with hydraulic pressure and is arranged to push the other friction pad against the disc as said caliper is moved on the guide shaft by a reaction to the thrusting action. The hydraulic pressure generator is disposed within the guide shaft and is provided with a cylinder which is formed within the guide shaft, a hydraulic pressure generating piston which slidably engages the cylinder and a hydraulic pressure generating chamber. The hydraulic pressure generating chamber communicates, through a passage means, with a hydraulic operation chamber which exerts hydraulic pressure on the thrusting piston.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1979Date of Patent: March 24, 1981Assignee: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tomohiro Fujita, Kennosuke Iida, Kazuo Kawase
