  • Patent number: 4848912
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring shapes, comprises a scanner, having a plurality of arms for holding an object the shape of which is to be measured, and a turntable to which one end of each of the arms is fixed; and a device for forming a silhouette image of the object including a first optical system which has an optical axis parallel to a rotating axis of the turntable and which has a light source and a light receiving unit confronting each other to allow the object to be in between the light source and the light receiving unit of the first optical system, and a second optical system which has another optical axis substantially at a right angle to the rotating axis of the turntable and which has another light source and another light receiving unit confronting each other to allow the object to be in between the light source and the light receiving unit of the second optical system.

  • Patent number: 4716459
Abstract: A distance between a distal end of a crack formed in a fatigue test piece on which a reference line is scribed, and the reference line, is monitored. The reference line and the crack are scanned with an ITV camera to prepare the fatigue test piece having the crack of a predetermined length. Luminance levels are integrated from a video signal obtained by scanning each raster in the same direction as that of the reference line to obtain a maximum luminance level, and the reference line position is detected from the maximum luminance level. At the same time, continuity of a high-level value is discriminated from the video signal, and a crack distal end position is detected from the discrimination result. A difference between both the detected positions is calculated, and the test piece is machined so that the difference corresponds to the predetermined length.

  • Patent number: 4380393
Abstract: A grazing incidence spectrometer is provided with an entrance slit and a diffraction grating for diffracting the light rays incident thereon from the entrance slit and for imaging the light rays as a plurality of spectral lines. The diffraction grating is a curved diffraction grating having a predetermined principal radius of curvature and the groove patterns thereof are formed at unequal intervals so as to make the image plane thereof substantially planar. The entrance slit is disposed within a Rowland circle so as to satisfy0.7.ltoreq.r/R cos .alpha..ltoreq.0.9,where R is the principal radius of curvature of the curved diffraction grating, r is the distance between the entrance slit and the curved diffraction grating, and .alpha. is the angle of incidence of the principal ray incident from the entrance slit onto the curved diffraction grating.

  • Patent number: 4309902
Abstract: A method for continuously measuring the steepness of a defective flatness of a metal strip during rolling, which comprises: detecting a variation in the relative distance between a metal strip during rolling and a distance-detecting means arranged adjacent to the surface of said metal strip, during the travel thereof between two support rolls arranged at a prescribed spacing, by means of said distance-detecting means, as a vibration including a vibration corresponding to a defective flatness produced in said metal strip; calculating the natural vibration frequency of said metal strip during the travel thereof between said two support rolls, from the detected value of the tension applied to said metal strip during the travel thereof between said two support rolls, the specific weight of said metal strip, and the distance between said two support rolls; cutting off the frequency components, which are below said calculated value of the frequency of said metal strip, from said detected value of the vibration of s

  • Patent number: 4054409
Abstract: The swirling burner comprises a vertical combustion chamber and an annular blast member located beneath the combustion chamber and provided with a central cylindrical space and a plurality of alternately superposed fuel gas passages and air passages. These passages are communicated with the cylindrical space through blow openings which are inclined in the same direction with respect to the radii of the cylindrical space. In a modification, the burner is further combined with straight blowing type burner for promoting the effect of the air-gas mixing.

  • Patent number: 4005986
Abstract: A device for making high temperature reformed gas from coke oven gas and blast furnace gas comprises a continuous heating apparatus for preheating a coke oven gas; and a first system including (a) an intermittent heat exchanger containing therein a packing bed of the heat-accumulator type for preheating a blast furnace gas; (b) a separate cyclone-type gas mixing chamber for mixing the preheated raw gases; and (c) an intermittent reforming furnace containing therein a packing bed of the heat-accumulator type impregnated with a catalyst. A second system comprising counterpart elements (a), (b) and (c) is connected to the apparatus (a) in parallel with the first system so as to be operated alternately with said first system. Bypass valves are preferably provided to feed the blast furnace gas directly to the gas mixing chamber bypassing the intermittent heat exchanger.
