Patent number: 7960053Abstract: The present invention aims to provide a sealed battery having superior performance due to favorable welding of a terminal of a seal cover and a current collector body provided below the seal cover, and a manufacturing method for the sealed battery. In the sealed battery, one of a positive-electrode plate and a negative-electrode plate is electrically connected, via a current collector body, to a terminal of a seal cover which seals an outer can. The current collector body is a single-piece plate member that has a main body and a tab extending from the main body. The tab passes through an insulating ring and bends back such that part of the insulating ring lies between a tip of the tab and the main body of the current collector body. The main body is resistance welded to the electrode assembly, and the bent back tab is resistance welded to the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2005Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazuteru Mori, Hiroyuki Inoue, Kazuki Shimozono, Kazuo Tomimoto

Publication number: 20100077603Abstract: A method for manufacturing a sealed cell includes the following steps. A step of producing an iron-based terminal cap, which includes an external terminal projecting toward the outside of the cell, a flange, and a hole in the flange, the hole having a diameter smaller on the inner side than on the outer side of the cell. A step of producing an aluminum-based safety valve, which includes a conductive contact portion projecting toward the inside of the cell, a peripheral portion, and a pin-like projection in the peripheral portion. A step of riveting the projection and the hole together by inserting the projection into the hole and crushing the tip of the projection. A step of welding the terminal cap and the safety valve by applying high-energy radiation to the part of the cap that is in the vicinity of the riveted part.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2009Publication date: April 1, 2010Applicant: SANYO ELECTRIC CO., LTD.Inventors: Syuichi Yamashita, Hiromitsu Suwa, Kazuo Tomimoto

Publication number: 20080206646Abstract: An electrode assembly of an alkaline secondary battery includes positive and negative electrodes disposed to face each other via a separator sandwiched therebetween. The separator has a dual-layer structure composed of a main-fiber nonwoven layer and an aromatic-polyamide-fiber nonwoven layer that are laminated in the thickness direction. The main-fiber nonwoven layer contains nylon as main fiber and does not contain aromatic-polyamide-fiber. In the electrode assembly, the separator is so disposed that the aromatic-polyamide-fiber nonwoven fabric layer faces toward the negative electrode.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2008Publication date: August 28, 2008Applicant: SANYO ELECTRIC CO., LTD.Inventors: Tetsuya KIKUCHI, Kazuki SHIMOZONO, Chihiro FUJISAWA, Kazuo TOMIMOTO
