  • Patent number: 5087372
Abstract: A method for simultaneously removing a plurality of different heavy metal ions from contaminated water is disclosed. A plurality of different heavy metal ions can be simultaneously, efficiently removed by filtering contaminated water through a porous membrane comprising a membranous, porous resin matrix and a plurality of side chains chemically bound to both surfaces and pore wall surfaces of the matrix, which side chains each have a chelate group, preferably an iminodiacetic acid group, and terminating the filtration when the concentration of a determinant heavy metal ion in the filtrate reaches a predetermined level. By the method of the present invention, a plurality of different heavy metal ions, such as a cobalt ion and a nickel ion, can be simultaneously, efficiently removed from contaminated water, such as water to be used for and waste water from a nuclear power generator, on a commercial scale.

  • Patent number: 5064866
Abstract: A selectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane comprising a membranous, porous resin matrix of a hydrophobic polyolefin or a hydrophobic copolymer of an olefin and a halogenated olefin and a plurality of side chains chemically bonded to both surfaces, which in turn are inclusive of pore wall surfaces, of the membranous porous resin matrix is disclosed. The side chains collectively contain both neutral hydroxyl groups and ion exchange groups. The selectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane is suitable for use in selective purification or selective removal of desired ionic substances including not only ionic inorganic substances but also an ionic organic substances, such as a protein and an amino acid, on a commercial scale. Further, the selectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane has not only excellent heat resistance, but also excellent mechanical strength.

  • Patent number: 4844719
Abstract: A permeable polymer membrane, formed of a fluorine type copolymer containing a repeating unit represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein m is 0 or 1 and n is an integer of the value of 2 to 5 and satisfying the relation between the water absorption ratio, W, and the ion-exchange capacity, Q, represented by the following formula:1.20Q-1.964<log W<1.2=0Q-1.742wherein W is W.sub.2 -W.sub.1)/W.sub.1, W.sub.1 a dry weight, W.sub.2 an equilibrium weight as immersed in pure water at 25.degree. C., and Q an ion-exchange capacity in meq/g of H form dry resin. This permeable polymer membrane is capable of highly desiccating a gas to a low water content. By the use of the extremely desiccated gas, semiconductor elements, semiconductor devices, intermediates thereof, and new components can be produced with outstanding quality. • Patent number: 4770778
Abstract: There is disclosed a hollow fiber semipermeable membrane element comprising hollow fiber semipermeable membranes having their respective one end portions or both end portions bonded together by means of a vulcanized rubber, so that the semipermeable membrane element has a high resistance to chemicals. The incorporation of a graphite fluoride in the rubber serves to further increase not only the hardness of the bonding rubber portions but also the resistance of the bonding rubber portions to chemicals. Such a semipermeable element can be easily, efficiently produced on a commercial scale.
