  • Patent number: 6257515
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus feeds magnetic tape from a supply reel to a take-up reel driven by a motor. Sensors generate signals responsive to each revolution of the supply reel and to the rotation of the motor. An end-of-tape detector counts the number of motor-sensor signals per revolution of the supply reel, and thereby detects the approaching end of the magnetic tape, so that the motor can be slowed before the end of the tape is reached. A detection threshold may be selected or computed in advance by using information provided by a third sensor, which generates a signal responsive to each revolution of the take-up reel.
