Abstract: A method of sanitizing a media comprising a controller and a storage device, the method comprising executing, by the controller, a command to erase a data area and an internal area of the storage device, verifying, by the controller, that at least a portion of the data area and at least a portion of the internal area of the storage device has been erased, generating, by the server, a certificate of media sanitization (CoS) of the media, and registering, by the server, an entry representative of the CoS of the media in a distributed ledger or database. Here the storage device is configured to store data received from a host external to the storage device only in the data area, and the storage device is configured to store operational data in the internal area for the operation of the storage device.

Abstract: A physical extent assurance unit manages correspondence of a logical disk accessed from a host computer with physical extents. A data pattern generation response unit generates a predetermined data pattern, and returns this data pattern in response to a data request from the host computer. A pattern matching unit checks the data pattern of a storage area every access to storage media or periodically. When the entire area of the assured physical extent defines the predetermined data pattern, the pattern matching unit deleted the logical disk allocation of the assured physical extent.

Abstract: Disclosed is a storage cluster system which includes a storage cluster constituted of a plurality of storage devices and a host device connected to the storage cluster by a first communication network, and each storage device includes a plurality of accessible regions into which a region logically accessible by the host device is divided, a controller to access to physically accessible regions of the plurality of accessible regions which are physically managed by the storage device, and priority order information which is referred to by the controller and which defines an access priority order of the storage device including the controller to the other storage devices.
