  • Patent number: 6616905
Abstract: Active carbon catalyst for recovering and removing sulfur oxides contained in flue gas by turning them into sulfuric acid by a catalytic desulfurization reaction. Powdery active carbon and fluororesin are kneaded by shearing force before being molded to a desired profile so that the inter-particulate gaps of powdery active carbon particles are made water-repellent. Flue gas preferably flows downwardly through a tower filled with such an active carbon catalyst, which is made to show a honeycomb structure having surfaces running only in a direction parallel to the flow. The activity of the catalyst maintains an enhanced level if dilute sulfuric acid or water is introduced into the active carbon from the top of the tower to cleanse the surface of the active carbon catalyst so that the catalyst layer is prevented from being clogged and contaminated by ashes and soot contained in flue gas.

  • Patent number: 6386452
Abstract: An image reading device is provided in which a number of degrees of freedom in control at a time of reading is increased. A plurality of light emitting elements, which emit light of different wavelengths, are provided in an array, and the array illuminates a photographic film. A plurality of light sensors, which receive light of plural different wavelengths, are provided and receive light transmitted through the photographic film. A controller controls each light sensor, by using a predetermined minimum charging time as a unit, such that, during a charge accumulating time which is an integer multiple of the minimum charge accumulating time, the light sensors receive the light transmitted through the photographic film. The controller controls each light emitting element such that the light emitting elements are pulse width modulated synchronously with the minimum charge accumulating time and such that one period thereof equals the minimum charge accumulating time, and emit light.

  • Patent number: 4911901
Abstract: A process for treating a flue gas containing sulfur dioxide and fly ash is disclosed in which an aqueous absorbent liquid is sprayed into the glue gas stream, and the resulting gas is fed to a vertical, open-ended pipe to form a jet annular stream, so that portions of the SO.sub.2 and the fly ash contained in the flue gas are transferred to the liquid phase. The jet annular stream is then sparged into the aqueous absorbent held in a well-mixed vessel to form a jet bubbling layer in a shallow, upper region of the aqueous absorbent, so that a greater part of the SO.sub.2 and the fly ash are removed from the gas. Air is introduced into a deep lower region of said aqueous absorbent to provide streams of fine oxygen-containing gas bubbles throughout the whole vessel, so that the absorbed SO.sub.2 and other sulfites are oxidized to form coarse gypsum crystals while COD of the absorbent is reduced.
