  • Patent number: 7463219
Abstract: The present method is to drive a plasma display panel which displays a frame composed of a plurality of sub-fields having different weights of luminance. The method comprises using plural kinds of application voltage waveforms different in light emission luminance, as pulse voltages for sustain discharges in display of each sub-field, and adjusting the number of waves in each of the plural kinds of application voltage waveforms according to the weight of luminance set for each sub-field, thereby performing gradation display.

  • Publication number: 20080231551
Abstract: On a front substrate, a dielectric layer for accumulating the wall charge is formed, and inside the dielectric layer, a first electrode and a second electrode intersecting each other are formed with a predetermined pitch. The dielectric layer is not flat but is convex at the intersection of the first electrode and the second electrode, and the thickness in the direction of the discharge space from the second electrode at the intersection is larger than the thickness in the remaining area. Consequently, since the electric field distribution at the intersection is coarser than that at places apart from the intersection when discharge is sustained by causing an electric field distribution in the discharge space through the dielectric layer, discharge occurs not at the intersection but in four positions at places apart from the intersection, so that the luminous efficiency per discharge cell is improved.

  • Publication number: 20080079364
Abstract: A plasma display panel includes a pair of substrates forming a discharge space between the substrates, and lateral barrier ribs extending in a row direction and longitudinal barrier ribs extending in a column direction that divide the discharge space into cells. Each lateral barrier rib is divided into two portions in the column direction such that a vent passage is formed in the divided portion. In the plasma display panel, raised portions, which are lower than the lateral barrier ribs and connect the lateral barrier ribs divided into the two portions with each other, are formed in the vent passage.

  • Publication number: 20080062075
Abstract: A gas discharge display device is provided which includes a screen for color display in which pixels are arranged in a matrix, each of the pixels being made up of three cells having different light emission colors, and a driving circuit that is configured for replacing each multi-gradation frame with a plurality of two-gradation subframes and for performing write addressing operation on each of the subframes, so that the subframes are displayed in order. For display of the leading subframe in display of each of the frames, the driving circuit causes, among the cells making up the screen, a non-minimum brightness cell to be lit and causes at least one cell adjacent to the non-minimum brightness cell to be forcibly lit, the non-minimum brightness cell being a cell whose corresponding multi-gradation data has a value that is not a value indicating minimum brightness.

  • Patent number: 6376986
Abstract: A plasma display panel is provided that can prevent interference of discharge between rows securely without reducing operation margin. Plural partitions being at a distance from each other define a discharge space of each column in the screen. The column space defined by the partitions is narrowed periodically along the column direction. A surface discharge gap is formed at each enlarging portion of the column space. A pair of plural main electrodes is provided for surface discharge. Each of the main electrodes includes a belt-like bus portion extending in the row direction of the screen and plural gap forming portions protruding in the column direction from the bus portion toward the enlarging portion in each column space.
