Patent number: 7556336Abstract: The object of the present invention is to adjust relative misalignment of recording positions of dots created at different timings with high accuracy, thereby enhancing the printing quality. A patch pattern is used as a test pattern for adjusting misalignment of recording positions between a first dot and a second dot created at different timings. In the test pattern, a fraction of the first dot and the second dot adjoining to each other in either a main scanning direction or a sub-scanning direction may be significantly greater than a fraction of the first dots or the second dots adjoining to each other. In the test pattern, substantially equal numbers of the first dot and the second dot may be created with a substantially equivalent dispersibility over a practically whole area.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2005Date of Patent: July 7, 2009Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventor: Kazushige Tayuki

Patent number: 6908173Abstract: In the bi-directional printing, a reference correction value is set for correcting printing positional deviation arising between forward and reverse main scanning passes with respect to specific reference dots. An adjustment value is determined, using at least the reference correction value, to reduce printing positional deviation arising between forward and reverse main scanning passes. The printing positional deviation between forward and reverse main scanning passes is adjusted using the adjustment value. In a first adjustment mode, the adjustment value is determined by correcting the reference correction value with a relative correction value prepared beforehand for correcting the reference correction value.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2003Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Koichi Otsuki, Shuji Yonekubo, Kazushige Tayuki, Toyohiko Mitsuzawa

Patent number: 6523926Abstract: During printing, print head characteristics are taken into consideration to alleviate positional deviation of dots in a main scanning direction and improve image quality. The print head unit is provided with readable head identification information that is set in accordance with characteristics relating to positional deviation of dots to be formed by the print head in a main scanning direction. In accordance with this head identification information, adjustment values are determined for reducing printing positional deviation in the main scanning direction, and these adjustment values are used to adjust the position of dots in the main scanning direction.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Toyohiko Mitsuzawa, Shuji Yonekubo, Koichi Otsuki, Kazushige Tayuki

Patent number: 6435651Abstract: Printing is carried out on a printing medium during main scanning using a printing device which comprises a print head having one or more nozzle arrays each including a plurality of nozzles for forming dots of same color. The plurality of nozzles for forming dots of the same color have a constant nozzle pitch k×D in the sub-scan direction, where k is an integer of 2 or greater and D is a dot pitch that corresponds to a printing resolution in the sub-scan direction. Each main scan line is scanned S times, where S is an integer of 2 or greater, using different nozzles. A combination of different values is used as feed amounts for S×k sub-scans. When the feed amounts for the S×k sub-scans are divided into S groups each containing k feed amounts for consecutive k sub-scans, a sequence of sub-scan feed amounts in at least one of the S groups of sub-scans is different from sequences in the other groups.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Koichi Otsuki, Kazushige Tayuki

Patent number: 6412909Abstract: The invention comprises a printing device wherein a head comprising a plurality of nozzles at a predetermined pitch is used for repeated primary scanning and sub-scanning to print images. The primary and sub-scanning are carried out in such a way as to comply with the following conditions. In the case of printing at a high resolution, dots are first formed during bi-directional operation of the primary scan. Second, the direction in which the dots are formed is aligned for each raster line. Third, a plurality of raster lines formed during operation in the same direction are adjacent to each other. Dots are formed under such conditions to allow the direction in which the dots are formed to be locally aligned. That is, locations with easily discernible shifts in the dots formed during forward travel and the dots formed during return travel can be reduced, allowing the grainy look of images to be improved.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2000Date of Patent: July 2, 2002Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Kazushige Tayuki, Yukimitsu Fujimori, Koichi Otsuki

Patent number: 6267519Abstract: In monochrome printing mode, a first correction value is set for correcting printing positional deviation between ink droplets printed during forward and reverse main scanning passes. In color printing mode, a second correction value is set for correcting printing positional deviation between ink droplets printed during forward and reverse main scanning passes. An adjustment value is determined for reducing printing positional deviation during forward and reverse main scanning passes. For this, in monochrome printing mode the first correction value is used as an adjustment value, and in color printing mode at least a second correction value is used to determine an adjustment value. Following this, the adjustment value is used to adjust printing positions during forward and reverse main scanning passes.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2000Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Koichi Otsuki, Shuji Yonekubo, Kazushige Tayuki, Toyohiko Mitsuzawa

Patent number: 6196736Abstract: Image quality is improved by correcting printing position deviation arising between forward and reverse passes in the main scanning direction during bidirectional printing. An adjustment value is prepared with respect to at least one type of specific target dots other than those dots having the highest density out of the plural types of dots. Printing positions during forward and reverse main scanning passes are adjusted with the adjustment value to reduce printing positional deviation between forward and reverse main scanning passes.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1999Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Koichi Otsuki, Shuji Yonekubo, Kazushige Tayuki, Toyohiko Mitsuzawa
