  • Patent number: 6346873
Abstract: A parent node transmits a third specific message to child nodes as a broadcast message if a first specific message indicating the start of the child node collides with another message so that normal receiving cannot be performed. Then, the parent node sequentially transmits second specific messages to each child node and then receives responses to recognize the states of the children nodes. The parent node transmits a specific message indicating a realization of a sleeping state as a broadcast message to the children nodes, followed by transmitting a specific message when data to be transmitted from the child node has been generated. The parent node cancels the sleeping state when it receives the specific message.

  • Patent number: 6323839
Abstract: A pointed-position detecting apparatus where image output unit visually displays an image, and image input unit inputs the displayed visible image. The input visible image is stored into memory as an original image. The visible image is partially changed by using a manipulation device such as a laser pointer or a pointing rod, and the visible image with the partially-changed area is inputted from the image input unit. Controller extract the changed image area from the input visible image, and detects a pointed position based on the changed image area. Thus, the phenomenon where a user's action with respect to a displayed image is reflected as a change in the image is utilized to detect coordinates and motion at the image area as the object of change.

  • Patent number: 6275305
Abstract: Image information to be transmitted is formed, audio information and coordinates information which is made correspond to the audio information and to a position of the image information are formed. The image information, audio information, and coordinates information are transmitted by a single communication. When receiving, the image information, audio information, and coordinates information which is made correspond to the audio information and to the position of the image information are received. The image information and audio information are reproduced. The position indicated by the coordinates information is displayed on the image. The contents of the image can be further easily understood on the reception side of the image. Such a display is realized by a simple system.

  • Patent number: 6031634
Abstract: An image information transmitting/receiving apparatus for time and cost-saving repetitive transmission. In facsimile communication, image data where further information is added to previously-transmitted image data is often received. In the present apparatus, the original image data is stored, and only difference data from the original image data is transmitted, thus the whole image can be reproduced at the receiving side, using the received difference data. Upon transmitting the difference image information, identification information identifying the difference image information is added to the difference information, and the entire image data to be received by the receiving side is stored. Upon receiving the difference image information, the received difference information is combined with the stored image data, and an image is reproduced based on the combined image data. Further, the image data used for image reproduction is stored as original image data for the next transmission.

  • Patent number: 5982928
Abstract: A system consisting of a plurality of terminals connected through communication is sometimes used to acquire information input from the terminals to a host terminal and edit/arrange the information in the host terminal when information is exchanged by inputting handwritten characters from the terminals. In this case, the host terminal must recognize the handwritten characters and thereafter process the characters to arrange the handwritten character information. Each terminal can perform character recognition by a unique character recognizing method. The terminals also individually prepare dictionaries for recognition. The host terminal returns the acquired handwritten character information to the terminals and causes the terminals to perform character recognition. Alternatively, the host terminal concentratively manages the character recognizing methods and dictionaries of all the terminals and performs character recognition.

  • Patent number: 5974191
Abstract: An image containing characters and lines, which is inputted by a scanner or the like, is binarized and stored in a memory. A thickening process is repeatedly applied on groups of significant bits stored in the memory, until a predetermined condition is fulfilled. After this process, the thickened image is thinned at least a greater number of times than the number of times the thickening process is repeated in order to eliminate lines. As a result, characters are determined to exist at areas where groups composed of remaining significant dots exist, then characters are separated from the input image based on the areas of groups composed of the remaining significant dots.

  • Patent number: 5922073
Abstract: Upon data access, an attribute-data extraction unit extracts location data and a password from attribute data which is added in advance to subject data to be accessed. At the time of requesting for an access to the data, the extracted password is compared with a password which is inputted from an input unit, and the extracted location data is compared with current location data detected by a location-data detection unit. An access permission unit permits access to the data in accordance with the comparison results obtained by the password comparison unit and the location-data comparison unit. By virtue of the process, it is possible to more strictly protect confidential information in a data processing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5828568
Abstract: An information processing apparatus, which operates in a multi-task mode, calculates a total consumption power of devices used by each task, and assigns higher execution priority to a task which uses a device with the largest consumption power, thereby shortening the execution time of the device with the largest consumption power, and suppressing the total consumption power of the apparatus. When a device is started upon switching of tasks, if the total consumption power exceeds the allowable power of the apparatus by a power consumed upon restarting of the device, the task is set in a waiting state until operations of other devices are completed, the consumption power is lowered, and it is ready to use the device by the task.

  • Patent number: 5781662
Abstract: Handwritten/input stroke data is compared with a gesture dictionary. If the data coincides with a specific gesture, it is checked whether the gesture is completed, and the stroke data is stored. After the meaning of the gesture command is analyzed by using the gesture dictionary, an image stroke data group which does not coincide with any gesture, and an icon group replacing stroke data which coincides with a gesture appears on the display screen. In this state, when the user taps icons having functions as gestures he/she wants to execute, the corresponding gesture commands are executed.

  • Patent number: 5526161
Abstract: A communication apparatus transmits a test message in one direction by the transmitting unit having narrow directivity capable of changing the transmitting direction, and an indication message which indicates that the test message is being transmitted by a transmitting unit having non directivity. Accordingly, the indication message is transmitted at least to the communicating party's apparatus. Subsequently, the transmitting direction of the test message is sequentially changed, and a similar process is performed. When the communicating party's apparatus detects a reception of the indication message, information indicating a level of the test message is transmitted to the transmitting apparatus as a response. The communication apparatus at the transmitting side detects the direction where the communicating party exists by receiving the information indicating the level. Hereinafter, the information communication is performed to adjust the transmitting unit of narrow directivity to the determined direction.
