  • Publication number: 20080140905
Abstract: A file management system including a hard disk unit and a file management unit. The file management unit manages data to be read and written from and into the hard disk unit such that data in a file is continuous in a predetermined logical address space and specifies a target data requested to be read and written from and into the hard disk unit by a predetermined logical address within the logical address space. The hard disk unit performs processing of reading and writing data after translating the predetermined logical addresses specifying the data requested to be read and written into LBAs. Then the hard disk unit performs defragmentation of data recorded on a magnetic disk based on the predetermined logical addresses.

  • Patent number: 6571278
Abstract: To improve communication efficiency during the updating of a replica, and to reduce the amount of memory required for the updating of a replica. The present invention is a computer for maintaining consistency of replica contents by interchanging data modification with another computer. The computer includes: a replica including shared data; a receiver for receiving, from another computer, a modification request for data included in the replica; and a controller for controlling, regardless of a receiving order of the modification request, for each receipt of the modification request, a timing of update execution for the replica in accordance with the received modification request by using information included in the modification request. The timing of replica updating in accordance with the received modification requests can be determined, regardless of the order in which the modification requests are received, that is, the order of the transmission from other computers.

  • Patent number: 6182278
Abstract: The present invention is directed to making a variety of programming operations, which a programmer desires, possible by using a program component. More specifically, an apparent function of program component 131 is extended by component-information editor 101 which updates the information of component-information storage 110 that holds the information about the property and method of the program component. The component information is utilized both when an application program is developed and when the application program is executed. When a program is developed, the component information is utilized by property editor 103 and code editor 107. Therefore, users can utilize the component information for generating a programming code with a feeling as if the function of the program component were extended. Furthermore, there is no possibility that the user will be conscious of the difference between the existent function and the extended function of the program component.

  • Patent number: 5436892
Abstract: An apparatus and method for enabling disassembly of packets into their components and for assignment of main storage areas without software intervention in the reception processing of a communications network. Direct partition is enabled by hardware without intervention of software by adding control information directly accessible by the receiving DMA feature 6 to each communications packet. The transmitting DMA feature 6 transfers the contents of the DMA command queue to the communications control unit 7 before transferring the data in computer storage 10 to the communications control unit 7. This information is added to the top of each packet before being passed to the receiving end. The receiving DMA feature 6 transfers each whole packet not to a single reception buffer but to different reception buffers in element data units by use of both this information and the information in the DMA command queue at the receiving end.
