  • Patent number: 7796221
Abstract: A sub picture element electrode directly connected to a thin film transistor is disposed between a floating sub picture element electrode capacitively coupled to a control electrode and a gate bus line in order to prevent injection of electric charges from the gate bus line to the floating sub picture element electrode. Moreover, a shield pattern electrically connected to an auxiliary capacitance bus line is formed between the floating sub picture element electrode and a data bus line. This shield pattern avoids injection of electric charges from the data bus line to the floating sub picture element electrode.

  • Patent number: 7692674
Abstract: The invention relates to a liquid crystal display used in a television receiver or a display section of an electronic apparatus and provides a liquid crystal display having a wide viewing angle and high viewing angle characteristics. The viewing angle characteristics of low gradations are improved by the capacitive coupling HT method. The viewing angle characteristics of high gradations above the intermediate gradation are improved by the driving HT method. A liquid crystal is driven using the capacitive coupling HT method and the driving HT method in combination to combine the effect of improvement of both methods, thereby improving the viewing angle characteristics of a liquid crystal display for a wide range from a low gradation to a high gradation.

  • Patent number: 7656465
Abstract: Fine electrode patterns pattern-formed in the shape of fine teeth of a comb bilaterally symmetrical with respect to band-shaped portions are formed at even intervals in a pixel electrode, and band-shaped dielectric layers are pattern-formed at even intervals to cover the fine electrode patterns in a display pixel. By the existence of the dielectric layer and the fine electrode patterns complementing this, a portion formed with this layer and the fine electrode patterns is a high threshold voltage region, and relatively, a low threshold voltage region where the dielectric layer does not exist is formed. By the aforementioned construction, it becomes possible to improve a delay in response speed at low gray levels and increase the speed of halftone response, whereby a very reliable image display having moving image performance almost equal to that of a CRT is realized.

  • Patent number: 7643116
Abstract: In a retardation film (c plate) for canceling the optical effect of a liquid crystal layer, the optical effect of the liquid crystal layer which is represented by ?nd/? increases as the wavelength ? of incident light decreases. Accordingly, in order to cancel this effect, a negative retardation needs to be reduced as the wavelength of incident light increases. In a retardation film (a plate) for rotating the direction of polarization of light, an in-plane retardation needs to be increased as the wavelength ? of incident light increases. It is preferable that both of these retardation films be placed. However, compared to known technologies, light leakage can be suppressed even using only any one of the retardation films.

  • Patent number: 7605874
Abstract: A polyimide film is formed in only the peripheries of picture elements defined by gate bus lines and data bus lines. The areas where the polyimide film is formed have higher thresholds of transmittance-voltage (T-V) characteristics than the areas without polyimide films. Discolor can be suppressed by providing a plurality of areas having different T-V characteristics within each picture element as described above.
