The present invention improves the durability of a card using paper as a base material and provides the card which spontaneously decomposes even when left after being discarded.

The composite laminate includes a straight-chain, biodegradable 3-hydroxybutyric acid/3-hydroxyvaleric acid copolyester in a thin film which has been laminated on at least one surface of a sheet-like substrate. A polymeric blend of a poly-.epsilon.-caprolactone with the straight-chain copolyester may be employed in the place of the straight-chain copolyester alone. The method for the manufacture thereof is also provided.
