  • Publication number: 20100123711
Abstract: In order to efficiently suppress pseudo contours, a display device has pixels arranged in a matrix arrangement, and performs display by performing digitally driving according to pixel data of an image signal. The driver divides pixel data for a single pixel into corresponding sub-frames as a plurality of bit data, and forms one frame from a specified repeating number of unit frames and digitally drives each pixel by providing the bit data to each pixel. A data analyzing circuit analyzes input data, and analyzes likelihood of occurrence of pseudo contours. A refresh rate control circuit controls the driver based on the analysis results to change a repeating number of unit frames of a single frame.

  • Publication number: 20100103181
Abstract: The application aims at reducing the power consumption of pixels not emitting light in an active matrix organic EL panel having a static memory cell in each pixel. Each pixel circuit comprises a selection transistor (5), first (2) and second (4) drive transistors as well as a first organic EL element (1) and a second (3) organic EL element respectively connected to the first and second drive transistors. The second organic. EL element is masked and does not contribute to the pixel brightness. The current flowing through the second organic EL element is reduced by current limiting means. This current limiting means may be a second supply voltage (VDD2) used in the current path with the second organic EL element, the second supply voltage being lower than the corresponding first supply voltage (VDD1) of the current path with the first organic EL element. Alternatively, the current limiting means may comprise a current limiting transistor (11) or a diode-connected transistor (13).

  • Publication number: 20100103182
Abstract: An active matrix display device (1) having a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix includes a frame memory (4) storing one frame of image data, a sub-frame timing generator circuit (2) controlling the timing of reading data from the frame memory, and a display portion (7) performing display according to the data output from the frame memory. The sub-frame timing generator circuit (2) is able to generate a plurality of read timing patterns each for displaying a different number of sub-frames per frame, that means each pattern is associated with how many times data is to be displayed in one frame. A mode setting signal determines the number of sub-frames per frame to be used and data is read from the frame memory according to the corresponding read timing pattern.
