  • Patent number: 7174087
Abstract: An equalizing circuit is provided for a playback apparatus not requiring tracking control. A playback signal is supplied to a plurality of unit delay devices which are connected in series, and the signals at the input ends and the output ends are supplied to weighting devices, respectively. Furthermore, the playback signal is supplied to a computation circuit, whereby weighting coefficients are determined. Weighting is performed on the signals from unit delay devices, and these signals are added together by an adder so that the equalization of the playback signal is performed, and the signal is extracted from an output terminal. Simultaneously, in the computation circuit, when the envelope value of the playback signal is within a range the phase lock for the playback signal is used so that the calculation of the weighting coefficients is done, and the coefficients of the weighting devices are changed.

  • Patent number: 6678460
Abstract: A magnetic reproducer for reproducing data recorded on a magnetic tape by forming tracks sequentially and obliquely along a longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape, has magnetic heads for reproducing the information by sequentially scanning the tracks formed on the magnetic tape with a first track width for a first recording system or a second track width for a second recording system wider than that for the first recording system. And, a gap width between the magnetic heads is set at a value which is wider than the first track width and narrower than the second track width.

  • Patent number: 6674961
Abstract: In a magnetic recording device and method, a magnetic reproduction method and its method and a tape recording medium, the performance can be improved. In the case of successively and obliquely forming tracks along the longitudinal direction of a second magnetic tape having a width wider than a first magnetic tape and continuously recording recording data for at least two tracks in a digital recording format on each track, each track is to be formed at a predetermined track pitch set based on the recording time and the reproduction signal characteristic. Thereby, recording data based on the digital recording format which is applied to the first magnetic tape can keep a practically sufficient C/N ratio and can be recorded on the second magnetic tape for a long time. And thus, a magnetic recording device and method, a magnetic reproduction device and method, and a tape recording medium capable of improving the performance can be realized.

  • Patent number: 6600871
Abstract: A digital video cassette recorder comprising a plurality of heads provided on a rotary member and performing the recording/playback of the data on slanted tracks in performing helical scanning for a magnetic recording medium with the above mentioned heads, wherein the heads being composed of a first and a second heads being disposed opposing to each other at an angle of 180° and a third head being disposed in a position at an angle of 270° in the direction of rotation from the first head, having the same azimuth angle as that of the second head, the digital video cassette recorder also comprising a changeover switch for switching the first, the second and the third heads, and two modes having different data compression rates from each other, and in the first mode, recording/playback being performed in switching the first and the second heads alternately, and in the second mode, the tape feeding speed is made half and recording/playback being performed once in two rotations in switching the first and t

  • Publication number: 20010053272
Abstract: An adaptive equalizing circuit is used for a playback apparatus which does not perform tracking control. A playback signal supplied to an input terminal is supplied to a plurality of unit delay devices which are connected in series, and the signals at the input ends and the output ends are supplied to weighting devices, respectively. Furthermore, the playback signal supplied to the input terminal is supplied to a computation circuit, whereby weighting coefficients are determined. Then, each weighting is performed on the signals from unit delay devices, and these signals are added together by an adder so that the equalization of the playback signal is performed, and the signal is extracted from an output terminal.
