    Abstract: A magnetic head is constituted by depositing two return yokes, and two coils to sandwich a main pole on a substrate, polishing an end surface extending in a deposition direction to form an opposite surface, and forming an auxiliary yoke in the opposite surface. The auxiliary yoke has a rectangular opening for exposing a tip surface of the main pole to the opposite surface. An end surface of the opening faces the main pole in noncontact therewith through a predetermined gap.
