Abstract: This invention relates to a threaded joint for steel pipes which comprises a pin and a box each having a contact surface including a threaded portion and an unthreaded metal contact portion and which guarantees galling resistance and gas tightness in a stable manner without application of a compound grease. A solid lubricating coating comprising a lubricating powder (e.g., molybdenum disulfide) and an organic or inorganic binder is formed on the contact surface of at least one of the pin and the box. The proportion of area of a cross section along the thickness of the solid lubricating coating which is occupied by secondary particles of the lubricating powder having an equivalent circular diameter of 15-60 &mgr;m is from 5-90%. Alternatively, the solid lubricating coating comprises, in addition to the lubricating powder, a fibrous filler (e.g., inorganic whiskers) in such an amount that the mass ratio of the fibrous filler to the binder is 0.01-0.5.

  • Patent number: 5970611
Abstract: In a method for processing a rotor used for a supercharger and the like, a slanted rolling machine is used having rolls designed such that the rolls are arranged about a pass line along which a material to be molded advances. Each roll is of corn shape and has a plurality of spiral-shaped grooves formed on its side surface. A shaft member made from iron or a similar material is inserted into an aluminum alloy tube. The aluminum alloy tube with the shaft member inside it is continuously fed to the slanted rolling machine along the pass line. Then, the periphery of the aluminum alloy tube is rolled/spread by the rolls for forming spiral shaped teeth from the tube material and for metallurgically attaching the tube to the shaft member.

  • Patent number: 5004143
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a clad bar and is basically characterized in that a columnar core member is fitted in a cylindrical outside layer member and the resulting assembly is heated, and then the heated assembly is rolled by a rotary mill provided with three or more cone type rolls to integrate the core member and the outside layer member by diffusion bending. The method is additionally characterized in that, in order to prevent unnecessary substances, such as oxides, from being formed on an interface between the core member and the outside layer member, the assembly is sealed at both ends thereof under reduced pressure or under vacuum or the assembly is cold drawn, the assembly thus welded or cold drawn is then heated and subsequently rolled by a rotary mill. Thus, an intermetallic compound layer formed between the core member and the outside layer member can be thinned, whereby improving bond strength.

  • Patent number: 4512177
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing solid metallic materials having a circular cross section by employing a rotary mill. A three or four roll cross-type rotary mill is employed, with cross and feed angle setting selected so as to meet specific conditions. The method permits efficient production of metallic materials without internal cracks or internal fracture initiated from porosity. In one version of the method the material being worked is rotated. In another version the material is not rotated and the roll housing is rotated around the former. Where the latter version is employed, it is possible to work the material as produced by a continuous casting machine and without cutting.

  • Patent number: 4510787
Abstract: A method of manufacturing hollow rods of very thick wall, in which wall thickness to outside diameter ratio is 25% or more, such as those used as work stock for manufacturing oil-well drilling collars. A cross-type or rotary mill having three or four cone-type rolls is employed without using internal sizing tools such as plug or the like, whereby a hollow work piece is worked and reduced in both outside diameter and wall thickness to the target values. In order to obtain higher dimensional accuracy and to prevent deterioration of the work material in mechanical properties, the cross angle should be positive and the feed angle should be set within the range of 3.degree..ltoreq..beta..ltoreq.20.degree..
