  • Patent number: 6300416
Abstract: A rubber composition useful as a tire side wall or tire tread is formed from an unsaturated olefin copolymer (A) or (A′) and diene rubber (B). Copolymers (A) and (A′) are each obtained from (i) ethylene, (ii) aromatic vinyl compound, (iii) non-conjugated polyene, and, optionally (iv) alpha-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms. When used in forming a tire side wall, copolymer (A) has a molar ratio of (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio of [((i)+(iv))/(ii)] from 98/2 to 60/40; an intrinsic viscosity, measured in decalin, at 135° C., from 1.0 to 6.0 dl/g; and iodine value from 10 to 50. For use in tire tread, copolymer (A′), has a molar ratio (i)/(iv) from 100/0 to 40/60; molar ratio [((i)+(iv)):(ii)] from 99/1 to 85/15. The weight ratio (A′)/(B) is from 1/99 to 50/50. The compositions for tire side wall are characterized by excellent strength properties and bending fatigue resistance and low fuel consumption.

  • Patent number: 6194501
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an olefin copolymer shrink film comprising an &agr;-olefin/aromatic vinyl compound random copolymer. This &agr;-olefin/aromatic vinyl compound random copolymer comprises 99.9 to 58 mol % of structural units derived from ethylene, 0 to 30 mol % of structural units derived from an &agr;-olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms (provided that the total of the structural units derived from ethylene and the structural units derived from an &agr;-olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms ranges from 99.9 to 88 mol %), and 0.1 to 12 mol % of structural units derived from an aromatic vinyl compound. The &agr;-olefin/aromatic vinyl compound random copolymer has an intrinsic viscosity [&eegr;], as measured in decalin at 135° C., of 0.1 to 10 dl/g and has a melting point, as measured by a differential scanning calorimeter, of 60 to 125° C. The olefin copolymer shrink film is oriented in at least one direction.

  • Patent number: 6007242
Abstract: A cooking device includes an infrared ray sensor disposed to sense infrared radiation from food obliquely from the above. Infrared ray sensor includes a printed circuit board, a light receiving portion, a photointerrupter, and a chopper. The chopper includes a horizontal vane portion and a vertical vane portion. The chopper is disposed between the light receiving portion of infrared ray sensor and food such that the vertical vane portion passes between the light emitting device and light receiving device of photointerrupter and that horizontal vane portion passes between the light receiving portion of infrared ray sensor and food when chopper rotates. Thus, an improved microwave oven having a reduced occupied area which can be manufactured less costly can be provided.

  • Patent number: 5919389
Abstract: In the operation of a thoroughly heating course of a microwave oven, when an ordinary temperature food having a weight of less than 500 g is heated to a desired finishing temperature of 75.degree. C., heating is performed until the temperature of the food reaches 75.degree. C. by a normal output of 650 W (a first mode). After time t.sub.1 at which 75.degree. C. is reached, the food is heated and kept warm at 90.degree. C. higher than 75.degree. C. by a lower output of 350 W (a second mode). As a result, the food can be surely and thoroughly heated to the inside.

  • Patent number: 5055248
Abstract: Stretched articles of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene are prepared by melt-kneading a mixture of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene with an aliphatic compound (b.sub.1) of at least 8 carbon atoms having a melting point of at least 10.degree. C. and a boiling point of at least 130.degree. C. in a screw extruder while maintaining the mixture at a temperature from the melting point of the mixture to 300.degree. C. The molten mixture is melt-extruded through a die at a temperature from the melting point of the mixture to 300.degree. C. and the resulting unstretched extrudate is cooled to solidify it. The unstretched solidified extrudate is then subjected to a stretching treatment at a temperature of the melting point of the aliphatic compound (b.sub.1) to a point 20.degree. C. above the melting point of the mixture at a particular stretch ratio.
