  • Patent number: 11218414
Abstract: A method of controlling communication between an edge cloud server and a plurality of clients via a radio access network comprises determining per-client buffer information relating to one or more buffers in the radio access network based on known configuration information, and dynamically determining current traffic flow information associated with a client in the radio access network. The determined per-client buffer information relating to the client, and traffic flow information associated with the client, is used to determine an amount of free buffer space available in the per-client buffer associated with that client. The method comprises controlling communication between the edge cloud server and the client, via the radio access network, based on the determined free buffer space.

  • Patent number: 9866652
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a data object from a Content Server to a client device over a Radio Access Network (RAN). A first property is determined that may affect the way in which the data object is to be transferred. A property of the data object is also determined. In response to the determined first property and the property of the data object, a characteristic of a transfer of the data object from the Content Server to the client device is amended. The data object is then provided from the Content Server to the client device. The method allows characteristics of the transfer of the data object to be changed to optimize transfer to the client device. Examples of the first property include properties in the RAN or client device instructions.

  • Patent number: 9832133
Abstract: A first network node, for supporting transport of data in a wireless communication network. One or more first data transmission connections, for first data flows, are established between the first network node and one or more service providing entities. One or more second data transmission connections, for second data flows associated with the first data flows, are established between the first network node and one or more wireless terminals via a target node. The first network node obtains a buffer measure that is indicative of a buffering degree at the target node for a first group of the second data flows. The first network node controls, based on the obtained buffer measure, a transmission pace between the first network node and the target node for a second group of the second data flows.

  • Patent number: 9703752
Abstract: There is described a method for optimizing the distribution of data objects between caches in a cache domain of a resource limited network. User requests for data objects are received at caches in the cache domain. A notification is sent from each cache at which a request is received to a cache manager. The notification reports the user request and identifies the requested data object. At the cache manager, object information including the request frequency of each requested data object and the locations of the caches at which the requests were received is collated and stored. At the cache manager, objects for distribution within the cache domain are identified on the basis of the object information. Instructions are sent from the cache manager to the caches to distribute data objects stored in those caches between themselves.

  • Patent number: 9220110
Abstract: A method of allocating user plane nodes to a connection being established across a packet core network. The method comprises maintaining at a Domain Name System, DNS, server, one or more DNS resource records for each available user plane node or group of neighboring user plane nodes, a DNS resource record containing a measure of a route quality or cost between the associated user plane node(s) or group(s) and each of one or more further user plane nodes or further groups of neighboring user plane nodes of the packet core network to which said associated user plane node(s) or groups is(are) connected. A connection establishment request is processed at a mobility management control entity within the packet core network, with a DNS query being sent to a DNS server, the query containing one or more user plane node selection criteria. The query is received at the DNS server and, on the basis of the or each criterion, one or more DNS resource records satisfying the criteria/criterion identified.

  • Patent number: 9071951
Abstract: A method comprises: associating a first tracking area identity list with a user equipment during registration with a core network node; sending the first tracking area identity list to the user equipment; and receiving at least one tracking area identity comprising the tracking area identity of a tracking area being used by the user equipment. The method further comprising: compiling an second tracking area identity list based on the tracking area identity list currently associated with the user equipment and on the received at least one tracking area identity; and in response to the second tracking area identity list containing a different set of tracking area identities than the tracking area identity list currently associated with the user equipment, sending the second tracking area identity list to the user equipment to replace an earlier tracking area identity list.

  • Patent number: 8995985
Abstract: A method for use in a core network node, such as a mobility management entity, is described for associating a tracking area list comprising at least one tracking area identity (TAIs) with a user equipment. A wireless communication network, such as an EPS network, comprises the core network node. The method comprises the steps of: registering at least one tracking area identity sequence of tracking areas repetitively used by a plurality of user equipments; and compiling at least one tracking area list using the at least one registered tracking area identity sequence. The disclosure also relates to a core network node and a computer program product.

  • Patent number: 8972568
Abstract: A method is implemented in a network element to generate quality of experience (QoE) metrics for hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) sessions over a network between a user device and an HTTP server. The QoE metrics are based on detecting premature termination of a download process that indicate low QoE. This QoE metric data can then be utilized by network administrators or service providers to adjust network characteristics to improve the QoE or to offer changes in services to a customer that would improve the QoE.

  • Patent number: 8897819
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of selective paging in cellular mobile networks, in particular to a method, an apparatus, and a network node for use in selectively paging a user equipment (UE) in a plurality of cells in which the UE is estimated to be located. Accordingly, a method in a network node in a wireless communication network for use in paging a UE in a plurality of cells is provided. The method comprises: determining, for the plurality of cells, the number of observations that is made of the UE in each of a number of sets of cells among said plurality of cells; determining a paging sequence for the UE in the plurality of cells based on said determined number of observations in each of said sets of cells; and enabling paging of the UE in the plurality of cells according to the determined paging sequence.

  • Patent number: 7054629
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and means for a system initiated subscriber information redistribution in order to achieve a load redistribution within a pool of core network nodes. The subscribers, that are affected by the redistribution, are determined by the bit values in their TMSI's. These specific TMSI's are then arranged to be treated as invalid by the cellular system. Messages etc. from subscribers with invalid TMSI's will be “trapped” in the cellular system and the subscriber information that belongs to these subscribers will be redistributed to new core network nodes.
