Abstract: A topical composition comprising a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist, a stiffening agent and a release modifier. The stiffening agent comprises a fatty alcohol, a fatty acid sorbitane ester, or a fatty acid glycerol ester, having a hydrocarbon chain containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms and having a melting point of about 45 to 750° C. The release modifier comprises a fatty alcohol, a fatty alcohol glycol ether, a fatty acid alkyl ester, a fatty acid glycerol ester, or a fatty acid sorbitane ester, having a hydrocarbon chain containing 12 to 18 carbon atoms and having a melting point of about ?10 to 400° C. Use of such a composition for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of a dermal or mucosal disorder, preferably an anorectal disorder associated with high anal pressure or anal sphincter spasm.

Abstract: A biologically active stick composition comprising a biologically active agent dissolved in a carrier system including an unsaturated fatty acid alcohol in mutual dissolution with an alkylene glycol as a solvent for said biologically active agent and a stiffening agent therefor, said stiffening agent imparting stick consistency to the composition, said alkylene glycol preferably being present in an amount of more than 12%. The composition can be prepared by dissolving the active agent in the solvent, combining the solution with the stiffening agent and shaping the formulation into a stick. The composition is especially intended for use as a medicament, preferably in the treatment of dermatological conditions, where it has been found to possess outstanding bioavailability properties.

Abstract: The invention relates to a novel biologically active composition which comprises a biologically active agent composition which comprises a biologically active agent to be released therefrom, said biologically active agent being dissolved and/or dispersed in a supersaturated state within a carrier, which carrier comprises a liquid and/or solid non-crystalline ester and/or polyester matrix, and where the precipitation of said biologically active agent is substantially, or completely, inhibited therein. Abstract: A biologically active composition comprising a solution of an active agent dissolved in a glass-forming carrier, which carrier comprises a glass-forming substance (A) containing a plasticizer (B), the amount of plasticizer preferably being selected so that the composition has a non-solid consistency. The composition can be prepared by dissolving the active agent in a melted mixture of the glass-forming substance and the plasticizer at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of said active agent. Use of the glass-forming carrier for dissolving a biologically active agent.

Abstract: An antimicrobial composition comprising an antimicrobially effective amount of a combination of: A) a monoglyceride of lauric acid, a monoglyceride of monomyristic acid or a mixture of these monoglycerides, and B) at least one chemical substance selected from the following groups: i) local anesthetics of the amide type; ii) carbamide, iii) antibacterial substances in the form of steroid antibiotics, imidazole derivatives or nitroimidazole derivatives, and iv) diols with 3-6 carbon atoms, and C) optionally, a conventional physiologically acceptable carrier and/or physiologically acceptable additives. A process for the preparation of this composition by heating (A) to the transition temperature of the lipid, adding (B), and optionally (C), and cooling the mixture to form a solid lipid crystal composition. Use of the composition for the preparation of a dermatological preparation for combatting bacteria and fungi or as a preservative additive in a cosmetic product, a food product, or a medical product.
