  • Publication number: 20200151380
Abstract: Transient voltage noise, including resistive and reactive noise, causes timing errors at runtime. A heuristic framework, Walking Pads, is introduced to minimize transient voltage violations by optimizing power supply pad placement. It is shown that the steady-state optimal design point differs from the transient optimum, and further noise reduction can be achieved with transient optimization. The methodology significantly reduces voltage violations by balancing the average transient voltage noise of the four branches at each pad site. When pad placement is optimized using a representative stressmark, voltage violations are reduced 46-80% across 11 Parsec benchmarks with respect to the results from IR-drop-optimized pad placement. It is shown that the allocation of on-chip decoupling capacitance significantly influences the optimal locations of pads.

  • Publication number: 20200153776
Abstract: A messaging system configured for recommending messages is provided. The messaging system machine trains a prediction model associated with a user based on past review and response times for past messages. During runtime, the messaging system generates a predicted user action time for each new message based on the prediction model and tags each new message with a corresponding predicted user action time. Based on an amount of available time, the predicted user action time for each new message, and importance for each new message, the messaging system determines a recommended set of new messages that the user should read and respond to during the available time, whereby a sum of the predicted user action time of the recommended set of new messages is equal to or less than the available time. The recommended set of new messages are visually distinguished for the user.

  • Publication number: 20200067637
Abstract: A proactive fault-tolerant scheme which improves performance and energy efficiency for NoCs. The fault-tolerant scheme allows routers to switch among several different fault-tolerant operations. Each operation mode has different trade-offs among fault-tolerant capability, retransmission traffic, latency, and energy efficiency. Another example provides a proactive, dynamic control policy to balance and optimize the dynamic interactions and trade-offs. The example control policy uses example machine learning algorithm called reinforcement learning (RL). The example RL-based controller independently observes a set of NoC system parameters at runtime, and over time they evolve optimal per-router control policies. By automatically and optimally switching among the four fault-tolerant modes, the trained control policy results in minimizing system level network latency and maximizing energy efficiency while detecting and correcting errors.
