Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of inputting a function of a mobile terminal such as a mobile phone, in which a grip posture of a user who holds the mobile terminal is recognized and a function corresponding to the recognized grip posture is detected. The method includes: recognizing a grip posture of a user who uses the mobile terminal; detecting a function corresponding to the recognized grip posture; and performing the detected function. Accordingly, by considering user's grip postures formed when performing the functions of a mobile terminal such as a mobile phone, specific functions are respectively matched to a plurality of grip postures, a grip posture of a user who is holding the mobile terminal is recognized, and a function corresponding to the recognized grip posture is automatically performed without any operation such as an additional key input operation.

Abstract: A method of controlling an input/output interface of a mobile terminal which receives a user command, and an apparatus to perform the method, the method including receiving the user command that selects a functional mode of the mobile terminal; perceiving the functional mode of the mobile terminal using the received user command; and controlling the input/output interface, which provides a sense of physical contact corresponding to the perceived functional mode, to be activated.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for controlling a portable terminal. The apparatus includes a contact sensing unit which senses an area of an external surface of the portable terminal contacted by a user as the user holds the portable terminal, a recognizing unit which recognizes a function mode of the portable terminal based on information about the contacted area sensed by the contact sensing unit, and a control unit which changes the portable terminal to a function mode recognized by the recognizing unit. Since a function mode of the portable terminal is controlled according to the way a user holds the portable terminal, convenience of changing a function mode of the portable terminal is provided through a single manipulation.

Abstract: An integrated remote control device and method using multi-modal inputs are provided. The integrated remote control device may include an input module that receives inputs of at least two modalities from a user, a first modality recognition module that recognizes and interprets an input of a first modality received from the input module, a second modality recognition module that recognizes and interprets an input of a second modality received from the input module, a command database (DB) that stores commands, a control module that interprets a user command by synthesizing information about the inputs interpreted by the first and second modality recognition modules, and extracts a control command that corresponds to the interpreted user command from the command DB, and an output module that outputs the control command extracted by the control module.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for voice-activated dialing of a telephone number on a mobile terminal, which comprises the steps of when voice dialing is selected, entering an initial voice input mode to display a voice dialing section consisting of a plurality of consecutive digit input sections; displaying consecutive digits inputted by voice on the plurality of input sections of the voice dialing section in the initial voice input mode; and when a send key is inputted, making an outgoing call to a telephone number consisting of the digits displayed on the voice dialing section.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for initiating a mode for performing a function through voice recognition on a mobile terminal, which comprises the steps of: when a first key provided on the mobile terminal is pressed over a predetermined period of time, shifting to a voice dialing mode for making a call through voice recognition; when a second key provided on the mobile terminal is pressed over a predetermined period of time, shifting to a voice menu search mode for searching for a menu through voice recognition; and when a third key provided on the mobile terminal is pressed over a predetermined period of time, shifting to a voice phonebook search mode for searching for a name and a corresponding telephone number in a phonebook through voice recognition.
