  • Patent number: 7022285
Abstract: An integral multilayer analytical element for analysis of ammonia or ammonia-producing substance is provided, which comprises a thin liquid blocking layer having a comparative facility with a thicker liquid blocking layer and is stably fabricated on a common production line employed for different type of slides. In the integral multilayer analytical element for analysis of ammonia or ammonia-producing substance comprising a transparent support, an indicator layer containing an indicator which produces a detectable change by gaseous ammonia, a liquid blocking layer permitting a gaseous ammonia to pass through, a reagent layer containing an alkaline buffering agent and optionally a reagent capable of reacting with said ammonia-producing substance to produce ammonia, and a spreading layer, adhesively laminated in this order, the improvement which comprises that said liquid blocking layer is composed of at least two porous membranes.

  • Patent number: 6217540
Abstract: The invention provides a blood filter cartridge which is made so that the filtrate discharged from the filtrate outlet is not drawn back to the inside of the filtering chamber. The blood filter cartridge includes a blood filtering material, a holder containing the blood filtering material and having a blood inlet and a filtrate outlet, and a filtrate receiver which receives the filtrate discharged from the filtrate outlet. The blood filter catridge is provided with a means for preventing the filtrate in the filtrate receiver from returning to inside of the holder upon finishing filtration. Such means include the following: removing opposite faces around the filtrate outlet, making length of lower end of the filtrate outlet 0.8 mm or more, smoothing surface around the filtrate outlet, and forming surface around the filtrate outlet by a material having a small surface energy.

  • Patent number: 5286614
Abstract: A substrate of a photosensitive web material of which the base end portion is gradually thinned toward the base end a core for a rolled photographic film which comprises a core body and a crosslinked foamed sheet having an expansion ratio of 18 to 45 times and a thickness of 0.2 to 2.0 mm which contains more than 50 wt. % in the sum of one or more members selected from the group consisting of polyethylene resin having a density of less than 0.930 g/cm.sup.3, ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer resin having a comonomer content of less than 25 wt. % and ethylene-ethyl arcylate copolymer resin having a comonomer content of less than 25 wt. % is disposed on the surface of the core body. The substrate and core sharply reduce the occurrence of marking troubles and pressure mark troubles on the photosensitive web material near the core caused by the difference in levels induced by the base end portion of the web.

  • Patent number: 4623501
Abstract: A coating method and apparatus in which a coating composition is uniformly coated onto a continuously moving web without accumulation of thickened composition in the coating head. Auxiliary supply pipes open into the cavity of the coating head at both ends of the cavity. Liquid is either supplied through the auxiliary supply pipes to the coating head, or a portion of the coating composition contained in the coating head is discharged through the auxiliary supply pipes. Preferably, the supply or discharge of the liquid through the auxiliary supply pipes is at a rate such that a ratio of a velocity component of the liquid flowing through the auxiliary supply pipes to that of the coating composition onto the moving web is in a range of 0.01 to 10.

  • Patent number: 4525392
Abstract: A method of simultaneously applying multiple layers of coating liquids to a moving web with a slide hopper type coating apparatus in which the fluidity of a coating liquid for forming the lowermost of multiple layers is improved to thereby eliminate inter-layer mixing and waving. The first coating liquid which forms the lowermost of the multiple layers is prepared so that it, when run at a low shear rate, has a viscosity equal to or different by no more than .+-.10 cp from a viscosity of a second coating liquid for forming a layer next to the lowermost layer when the second coating liquid flows at a low shear rate and that the first coating liquid, when run at a high shear rate, has a viscosity lower than the viscosity of the second coating liquid when the second coating liquid flows at a high shear rate. The first and second liquids are then applied to a moving web with the slide hopper type coating apparatus.
