  • Patent number: 6916235
Abstract: A hand-held endless belt abrading machine comprises a base portion and a main portion, which portion is rotatable relative to the base portion around an axis extending in a forward and rearward direction of the abrading machine. The main portion comprises an air motor having a rotational shaft extending in a direction transverse to the abrading machine and projecting from the left end of the air motor, so that an abrading endless belt assembly drivingly connected to the output shaft is positioned to the left relative to the motor and the base portion which is held by a hand of an operator. When a left-handed person uses the abrading machine, the main portion is turned 180° relative to the base portion to shift the abrading endless belt assembly to the right relative to the base portion, thereby enabling the operator to readily observe the abrading belt assembly in operation.

  • Patent number: 6885360
Abstract: A backlight device for a transmissive liquid crystal display device includes a plurality of light sources, including a cold cathode fluorescent lamp and an LED, a liquid crystal panel, and a light guide plate. The light guide plate causes light entering into it through one surface thereof to emerge out of another surface thereof toward the liquid crystal panel. A controller for the backlight device selects at least one of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp and LED, depending on brightness required for the liquid crystal display device and determines, in accordance with the required brightness, the brightness of the selected light source to operate the light source accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20050021792
Abstract: A mobile phone compares a URL of a provider of an original Java application (JavaAP) with a URL of a provider of a destination JavaAP, to determine whether a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) of the URLs are identical. Only if the FQDNs are identical, the mobile phone permits the destination JavaAP to use data relating to the original JavaAP. In this way, appropriate management of transferring data from an application to another will be effected, thereby improving data security against an unauthorized application.

  • Publication number: 20050005099
Abstract: The present invention provides a means for determining authenticity of a combination of files which are downloaded to a mobile station, and which are related to one another. To achieve the stated object, in a system according to the present invention, mobile station 16, which is capable of running a Java-APP, receives an ADF from CP server device 12. Then mobile station 16 receives a SDF from trusted server device 18, which is identified by data contained in the ADF. Mobile station 16 calculates a hash value of certificate data contained in the ADF, and verifies whether the calculated hash value of the certificate data and a hash value of the certificate data which is contained in the SDF are identical to each other. Next, mobile station 16 receives a JAR file from CP server device 12. Mobile station 16 calculates a hash value of the JAR file, and verifies whether the calculated hash value of the JAR file and a hash value of the JAR file contained in the ADF are identical to each other.

  • Publication number: 20040267783
Abstract: The present invention provides an information processing device for estimating usage of contents and properly limiting functions realized through use of the contents in accordance with the estimation. Usage of contents is estimated by determining in which of cache memory means and content storage means the contents are stored. When the contents are processed or executed, it is determined whether to limit functions realized through processing or execution of the contents, on the basis of the estimated usage of the contents and function limit information showing a rule regarding limits on functions realized through processing or execution. On the basis of the determination, the functions realized through processing or execution of the contents are limited.

  • Publication number: 20040260939
Abstract: The present invention provides a means for reflecting modifications made in a server to data with regard to a scope of rights, which are granted to an application program operable in a communication device such as a mobile station, on data stored in the communication device. To achieve the aim, in a system according to the present invention, Java-AP software is provided to a mobile station by transmitting an ADF, a SDF and a JAR file from servers to the mobile station in that order. The SDF is a file containing data indicating restrictions of behavior of a Java-AP in a mobile station. The SDF also contains data indicating a validity state of the SDF, namely ‘valid’ or ‘invalid’, which is managed by management server device 18. Before a mobile station runs a Java-APP which is installed in the mobile station, the mobile station accesses management server device 18 and checks whether a SDF corresponding to the Java-APP is valid.

  • Patent number: 6785403
Abstract: An optical axis direction, a distance measurement accuracy and so on are efficiently performed for quality assurance of a vehicle-mounted camera in cooperation of an image processing unit and a vehicle-mounted navigation control unit. In a vehicle monitoring system for imaging view ahead of the vehicle with the camera (2a, 2b) installed in the vehicle body and for recognizing a running condition with the image processing unit (20), the image processing unit measures an optical axis direction and a distance measurement accuracy to determine whether the camera quality is appropriate or not for quality assurance of the vehicle-mounted camera. The determined result is displayed on a monitor (52) of the vehicle mounted navigation control unit (5) to recommend adjustment of the camera.

  • Publication number: 20030046564
Abstract: Data is encrypted and stored in an area on a storage medium accessible by the user outside an external storage device. A decrypting algorithm is stored in an area inaccessible by the user outside the external storage device. The external storage device provided with the storage medium retrieves the decrypting algorithm according to which the data is decrypted using a key obtained from outside the external storage device, for example, from a personal computer connected to the external storage device. Since the encrypted data and its decrypting algorithm are stored on the same storage medium, a specific decrypting algorithm can be assigned to each storage medium, thereby improving the security level for the stored information.

  • Patent number: 6508946
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an ink jet recording head using wet etching, the method providing a high production efficiency, an ink jet recording head manufactured by this method, and an ink jet recording apparatus using this recording head. A silicon substrate, constituting a recording head, has functional elements formed thereon and including heat-generating resister elements and a drive circuit therefor, a protective layer is formed on the silicon substrate for protecting the functional elements from an etchant that is in contact with a substrate surface via an adhesive layer, and an ink supply port is formed by means of wet etching. The adhesive layer allows the protective layer to adhere well to the substrate to appropriately prevent the functional elements from being damaged by the etchant.
