Abstract: A non-linear editing device capable of removing a medium from a system during editing or even after editing by copying a material file in the medium to another medium such as a built-in hard disk during editing and automatically changing a reference destination of material. This non-linear editing device includes a detachable first material storage part, a second material storage part, a material reference management part for managing a reference to the material file from a clip, and a material copying management part for allowing the material reference management part to execute the change of reference information.

Abstract: Presented herein is an editing apparatus capable of restoring a material from either media of original media and backup media, and backing up or restoring by using different media. This editing apparatus comprises a material storage for storing a material, a material capture unit for taking in a material from external media to the material storage, a material output unit for sending the material stored in the material storage to external media, and a material information management unit for managing external media information for specifying at least either one of the external media and material storing place in the external media, in which the material information management unit has an external media information store region.
