  • Patent number: 5331834
Abstract: A rolling method and apparatus permits a long metal blank to be rolled across the width thereof at a high rolling speed. According to one specific embodiment of the method and apparatus, a sun roller is mounted to a machine stand, and a set of planetary rollers is mounted for rolling movement around the sun roller. The long metal blank is rolled between the sun roller and the set of planetary rollers by feeding it in the direction of the center line axes through the sun roller and the set of planetary rollers. The method and apparatus provide a planetary cross-rolling process that may proceed in a successive manner. According to another specific embodiment of the method and apparatus, a sun roller is rotatably mounted to a machine stand, and a set of planetary rollers is mounted for engaging and rolling around the sun roller. A back-up housing is mounted to the machine stand and is also mounted around the set of planetary rollers.

  • Patent number: 4982590
Abstract: A roll-forming apparatus is specifically designed to handle metal wires or other wire stock that is not for or is difficult for use in a drawing process, so that it can provide a reduced-diameter wire in a roll-forming process. The apparatus comprises a framed structure having four sides within which a pair of roll-forming rollers are arranged in parallel, one roller being powered by a driving power source, and the other roller being interchangeable. For a typical application, a plurality of such apparatuses may be arranged in series such that each unit is oriented at a right angle with regard to its adjacent unit.

  • Patent number: 4622841
Abstract: A method for finishing a relatively long metal tubing stock to any desired tapered shape through a single-pass operation. The method is performed with any number of individual swaging units, arranged in tandem each having the identical construction including the same working parts and assemblies. A grooved roll arrangement, associated with the tandem-configured swaging units, is used as a preliminary step to form an initial metal tubing stock into a multiple-stepped shape.

  • Patent number: 4441351
Abstract: A method of producing a continuous metallic tape from a metallic material wire by rolling. A wire having any desired cross-sectional shape is fed into the gap between a pair of rolls in a direction parallel to the axes of the rolls. The rolls are adapted to be reciprocatingly rotated or oscillated through a predetermined angular stroke. Guide members are provided at the material wire inlet side and the product tape outlet side for shifting the wire and the tape in a direction perpendicular to the direction of feed reciprocatingly and in synchronism with the rotation of the rolls. Pinch rolls are provided for intermittently feeding the wire when the latter is out of the area of rolling pressure.

  • Patent number: 4314470
Abstract: The invention is related to a wire drawing device having a plurality of roller die units. Each unit contains two opposing grooved rollers which are respectively mounted in bearing frames which are connected to one another in an opposing fashion by threaded shanks. The shanks are rotatable and function to regulate the distance between the rollers. Each unit is housed in a square frame. The square frames are structured and dimensioned such that they can be serially aligned whereby the radial planes of each adjacent set of grooved rollers are perpendicular to one another thus allowing the distance between adjacent rollers to be less than the diameter of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4218906
Abstract: For use in drawing, straightening or stretching a strip of metallic material such as bars, wire, and coils, an apparatus having a pair of elastic ring-equipped roll assemblies which provide a high tensioning force for the strip material held therebetween. As the tensioning force increases, the elastic ring in each of the roll assemblies tends to deform elastically along the circumferential direction of the area which contacts the material, thus increasing the contact area over which the applied force is evenly distributed. By this means the force per unit area can be reduced. The elastic ring is mounted on a control driving shaft by at least three axially rotatable rollers, two of which are arranged to bridge the area of the material contacted by the ring.
