    Abstract: A fuel injection control device for a diesel engine controls the first fuel injection timing so as to reduce the amount of white smoke generated in large amounts immediately after starting an engine. The fuel injection control device for the diesel engine comprises a high-pressure pump, a common rail for accumulating a highly-pressured fuel, injectors for injecting the fuel into a combustion chamber and a control means. Due to the fuel injection control device for the diesel engine, the fuel injection is performed after the cranking, without injecting the fuel for a certain period of time after an engine starting switch is turned on so that the pressure in the common rail becomes a set value.

The inside of a combustion chamber 12 formed at a top of a piston is formed in such a manner that a vertically cross-sectional shape passing a center axis O2 inside of the combustion chamber is symmetric with respect to the center axis. Furthermore, an opening 18 at an upper end of the combustion chamber 12 is formed into a substantially polygonal shape in combination of round portions 21 and straight portions 22.
