  • Patent number: 4818559
Abstract: An improved method for producing endosseous implants by thermally spraying a ceramic material onto the surface of a metallic core material having a rough surface, i.e. a maximum surface roughness of 15 to 100 .mu.m, which can produce implants which have excellent characteristics in regard to the metallic material and ceramic material and do not dissolve out harmful metal ions. The endosseous implants are useful for implantation in various bones including tooth roots and joints in living bodies.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 29, 1986
Date of Patent: April 4, 1989
    Assignee: Sumitomo Chemical Company, Limited

  • Patent number: 4687675
Abstract: An improved method for the production of endosseous implants is disclosed. The method includes thermally spraying a hydroxyapatite-containing powder onto the surface of a metallic core material, and treating the resultant product with an aqueous solution which does not substantially dissolve the hydroxyapatite but can dissolve calcium oxide, to thereby dissolve out alkaline components. The endosseous implants of this invention have excellent mechanical properties and excellent affinity to the living body without hematolysis, and hence, are useful for the treatment or recovery of defective or lost bones, joints and tooth roots.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1986
Date of Patent: August 18, 1987
    Assignee: Sumitomo Chemical Company
    Inventors: Kazuhiko Nakano, Keiichirou Watanabe
