  • Patent number: 6011906
Abstract: A film scanner for generating output image data by applying a correction process referring to a predetermined parameter to the read out image data generated by scanning an original is connected to a digital color printer. When an adjustment mode is specified in the film scanner, the reference output image data generated based on scanning a reference original by a printer is fed to the film scanner to be set as the target data. Based on read out image data generated by scanning a reference original having characteristics identical to those of a reference original, a parameter is calculated to be set for a correction process so that output image data matching the reference data is generated.

  • Patent number: 5966555
Abstract: A digital copying machine as an example of an image forming apparatus sets a copying operation time period per sheet based on the size of a copying sheet. If the remaining number of sheets corresponding to an expendable in the digital copying machine decreases, time at which this expandable runs out is displayed, and time at which a discharge tray is filled is displayed if the number of sheets to be discharged onto the discharge tray is expected to exceed a fixed value. As a result, an image forming apparatus permitting an operator to smoothly perform processings with the apparatus if a copying operation to a set of documents formed of a plurality of sheets cannot be completed.

  • Patent number: 5860039
Abstract: An image forming apparatus of exposing method has two exposure control modes, automatic and manual, and a controlling section to switch the mode from one to another. When the exposure control mode is switched from automatic to manual, the apparatus of this invention controls the median value of the exposing degree range, from which the users may choose, to be equal to the exposing degree determined in automatic mode. However, in case the exposing degree was not determined when in automatic mode or in case there is a signal that tells an exchange of the original, e.g. job interruption, a predetermined value is fixed to be the median of the exposing degree range.

  • Patent number: 5740505
Abstract: The present invention relates to image forming apparatuses such as copying machines, facsimile devices, and complexes thereof. When the image is produced as rotated by 90 degrees or 270 degrees by the rotary processing part 307 while the scanning speed of the original document is finely adjusted so as to be lowered, the control of the magnification is carried out so that the produced image will be contracted in the main direction and enlarged in the sub direction by an mount corresponding to the amount of adjustment made on the operating panel. On the other hand, when the scanning speed of the original document is adjusted to a higher level, the control of the magnification is carried out so that the output image may be enlarged in the main direction and contracted in the sub direction by an amount corresponding to the amount of adjustment to be made on the operating panel.

  • Patent number: 5406366
Abstract: Disclosed is a copying machine for forming a multicolored image, having a plurality of developing devices which contain toner of different colors, and a color image sensor for reading an original image. The copying machine judges each part of the original image whether to be a monochromatic area or a color area, from image data collected by the color image sensor. Then, the copying machine reproduces the monochromatic area by use of only one of the developing devices which contains black toner, and reproduces the color area by use of more than one of the developing devices which contain other color toner. Further, the copying machine detects a border area between the monochromatic area and the color area, and reproduces the border area by use of all the developing devices.

  • Patent number: 5274423
Abstract: The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine and the like, and more in particular to the temperature control at a fixing unit thereof. In the image forming apparatus according to the present invention, the temperature of the fixing unit is controlled to be kept at the first set point by the processor in normal operation, and when the temperature of the fixing unit rises to come to reach the second set point as a result of the troubles in the processor, the temperature is made to drop by resetting the processor or by cutting off the current to the fixing unit by the function of the breaking circuit of the current from the power source. Consequently, the temperature of the fixing unit never rises even when the processor gets out of order. As a result, it is possible not only to prevent thermal damages of parts caused by temperature rise at the fixing unit, but also to aim at improving the quality of prints as well as carrying out power saving.

  • Patent number: 5138392
Abstract: An electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming a color toner image by a developing device and fixing the toner image by a fixing device including top and bottom rollers. When OHP mode for forming images on transparency sheets is selected, the time required for fixing the toner image is prolonged so as to assure the transparency of the image fixed to a recording member. That is, if the size of the transparency sheet is larger than a predetermined value, the transparency sheet is sent to a returning path which returns the recording member discharged from the fixing device to the fixing device again, and if the size of the transparency sheet is smaller than the predetermined value, the fixing device is operated more slowly than a case of forming images on non-transparency sheets. Further, when the OHP mode is selected, heating power is supplied to both top and bottom fixing rollers, and when the OHP mode is not selected, the heating power is supplied to the top fixing roller only.
