    Abstract: To provide a rolling bearing which is superior in preventing electrolytic corrosion, suitable for use in applications where torque reduction of the bearing is required by reducing an amount of lubricant used or by using a lubricant having a low viscosity, and has superior acoustic characteristics and durability, a rolling element according to the present invention is made of an alumina-zirconia composite material including an alumina component and either a zirconia component or a yttria-zirconia component containing 1.5 to 5 mol % of yttria, a mass ratio of the alumina component to the zirconia component or the yttria-zirconia component being 5:95 to 50:50.
