  • Patent number: 4944467
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for decelerating the jumbo roll of a paper or a board manufacturing machine in order to minimize the time required for a reel drum exchange and the amount of paper or board wasted as the jumbo roll slackens. The apparatus comprises brake shoes (9, 11) and arms (8) provided with means (13) producing the decelerating force. The arms can simultaneously transfer and decelerate the jumbo roll (2) whereby also a loop in the web is formed rapidly and easily.

  • Patent number: 4778122
Abstract: A method of charging reel drums (4) of a paper or a board manufacturing machine winder to the front end of a store (12) disposed on top of the winder; and of lowering the reel drums (4) from the store (12). During the charge of the reel drums (4) to the store, the reel drums (4) already in the store (12) are pushed from the front end (13), i.e. loading and discharge end of the store towards the rear end at least by a distance (D) equal to the diameter of the reel drum (4). When a reel drum (15) is lowered, the drums (4) which are in the store displaced at a distance equal to the reel drum diameter from the front end (13) of the store (12), are kept in place.

  • Patent number: 4749139
Abstract: A web of a paper or board manufacturing machine is severed utilizing a severing tape in a fully automatic operation. A main (Pope) cylinder and reel drum are part of a winder for the web, and have a nip therebetween, the cylinder and drum mounted for rotation about parallel axes. A severing tape is attached by adhesive tape to a cardboard card mounted by a pivotal arm on a first side of the winder, with an intermediate portion of the tape held outwardly from the arm by a tape dispenser with spring clip. On the second side of the winder a swing guide is mounted for pivotal movement about an axis perpendicular to the main cylinder, and mounts a spool of tape for rotation about an axis parallel to the main cylinder. The card is inserted in the nip when web severing is desired, tape is taken up on the reel drum, and after the tape is tensioned and severs the web the tape is cut by a pair of cutting blades mounted at the second side of the winder.

  • Patent number: 4516735
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for winding of webs of paper, board and the like on cores wherein the wound web roll is supported on two parallel supporting drums. A new core is brought into the space formed by the wound web roll and the supporting drums. The web is fastened to the new core by fasteners such as nails or staples and severed while the wound web roll is being supported by the supporting drum adjacent to the supporting drum on the infeed side of the apparatus and the web is running over the periphery of the new core.
