Abstract: Disclosed herein is, a license source component for transferring a license defining a content usage rule to a license destination component, the license source component and the license destination component each being a unit of license processing, including, creating means for creating a message including a license, a manipulation type defining a type of processing the license between the license source component and the license destination component, and a component attribute defining an attribute of the license source component of its own, and transferring means for transferring the message to the license destination component.

Abstract: Methods and systems of distributing digital content governed by a digital license are provided. In one aspect, the license has identification data for licensed content and is transmitted to a client device. A first item of content is transmitted to the client after receipt by the client of the license. The first item of content has first content identification data, and at least a portion of the first item of content is in encrypted form. A second item of content is transmitted to the client after receipt by the client of the license. The second item of content has second content identification data that is different from the first content identification data. At least a portion of the second item of content is in encrypted form. The encrypted portion of the first item of content is decrypted if the first content identification data corresponds to the identification data for licensed content.

Abstract: There is provided a group registration device or the like which is capable of simplifying registration processing to readily perform group registration while retaining secure registration processing. A group registration device 10 includes a registration request detecting unit, a session ID generating unit for generating a session ID, a registration request message sending unit, a registration reply message receiving unit, a verification unit 231 for verifying non-redundancy of a message, and a storage unit 241 for storing an ID list included in a registration reply message in a storage region so as to be associated with a group ID. Within the same registration session, the registration request message is sent once, the registration reply message is received once, and processing is restricted to sending of the registration request message and receiving of the registration reply message.

Abstract: An information processing system includes an information processing device and an encrypting/decrypting device. The information processing device includes a copy-control-information extracting unit sequentially extracting copy control information included in content data, a copy-control-information-change detecting unit detecting a change in the copy control information, a content data separating unit separating the content data and storing a plurality of content data files, and a license generating unit generating a license corresponding to each content data file. The encrypting/decrypting device includes a receiving unit receiving the content data including content data packets and control information packets, a copy-control-information selecting unit selecting one piece of copy control information in accordance with the degree of copy restriction, and a transmitting unit transmitting the content data packets and the selected copy control information to the information processing device.

Abstract: There are disclosed methods and systems (and related data structures) for processing metadata in files, including media files, so that an alteration or falsification of the metadata can be detected. According to certain embodiments, the metadata includes hash values and digital signatures that were generated by a content server. These hash values and digital signatures can be used by a client device to authenticate the metadata.

Abstract: A content reproduction apparatus and method is disclosed which can manage a use state for each one, two or more tracks included in a content and perform prescribed updating irrespective of the number of tracks reproduced in an overlapping relationship, with the following configuration. The content reproduction apparatus includes: a track selection section operable in response to a reproduction request of a content for selecting a track or tracks; a status ID reading section reads a status ID from the selected track; a license extraction section extracts a license corresponding to the status ID; a status information extraction section extracts, when the extracted license includes a use limitation condition, the status information corresponding to the status ID; and a license decision section decides whether or not the use state of the status information satisfies the use limitation condition of the license.

Abstract: A license evaluation apparatus and method is disclosed which can specify the substance and the position of an error only with a simple description without the necessity to analyze the error in an ex post fact fashion. A data storage section stores licenses, and a content selection section selects a content. A license extraction section extracts the license from within the data storage section. A conditional expression decision section reads a conditional expression in use condition information of the license and an error code annexed in advance to the conditional expression and deciding whether or not the conditional expression is satisfied. If the conditional expression is not satisfied, an error code retaining section retains the error code. An application to which the error code is returned can specify the error without analyzing the error in an ex post fact fashion.
