  • Publication number: 20020177934
Abstract: A vehicle collision damage reduction system is provided. The system works by detecting the relative speed between the vehicle and an object, such as another vehicle. A danger level is calculated based on parameters such as speed and distance to the object; the danger level could be at an “emergency level” or at some lower level. Based on the danger level, different corrective measures and the degree of the corrective measures can be adjusted to attempt to minimize occupant injury. For example, the airbag can be adjusted to better protect the occupant, a pre-tensioner can be activated at a certain level, and the inclination of a child restraint seat may be adjusted as well.

  • Patent number: 6406056
Abstract: An air bag is fixed to a base plate, and a lid is integrally formed in an instrument panel. A frame portion of the lid has hook holes therein. An assembly including the folded air bag is installed to the instrument panel by engaging the hooks with the hook holes. In the air bag device, all or most of components can be used in common in various models with different layout requirements of the space behind instrument panel.

  • Publication number: 20010030414
Abstract: A cover for an air bag device that enables an emblem to be secured to the cover in an extremely simple manner. The cover (module cover) has a recess for receiving the emblem. An extension of the emblem is extended through a hole in the cover. A distal end of the extension is bent along a rear side of the cover. A rib is pressed and welded by a thermal or ultrasonic welding element to form a welding body. The welding body covers the distal end of the extension.

  • Patent number: 6244618
Abstract: In a steering device having a horn switch which is actuated by depressing a module cover only, the module cover is securely connected to a base. An airbag device 20 is mounted on an end of a shaft 10. The base 22 of the airbag device 20 has hooks 46 projecting laterally from the base. The module cover 28 has a leg portion 42 which has openings 44 formed therein, to which the hooks 46 are engaged. A flange 32 of an inflator 24 is lied on a main plate 36 of the base 22 such that the periphery of the opening of the airbag 26 is held therebetween. As the module cover 28 is depressed, only the module cover 28 moves backward so that the horn switch 54 is actuated by pushing action via a rod 66. When the inflator 24 is actuated, the module cover 28 is securely supported by the hooks 46.
