  • Patent number: 6999851
Abstract: A robot apparatus and a motion controlling method for the robot apparatus wherein a reflex motion or the like can be performed at a high speed while decreasing the calculation amount of and the concentrated calculation load to a control apparatus. The robot has a control configuration having a hierarchical structure including a higher order central calculation section corresponding to the brain, reflex system control sections corresponding to the vertebra, and servo control systems and actuators corresponding to the muscles. From restrictions to the power consumption and so forth, there is a limitation to increase of the speed of a control cycle of the higher order central calculation section. External force acting upon the machine body is a disturbance input of a high frequency band, and a very high speed control system is required.

  • Patent number: 6992455
Abstract: In a foot of a legged mobile robot, deformation of the foot is absorbed by a first concavity and the position and shape of a ground-contact portion hardly change. Accordingly, variation in a resistive force against the moment about the yaw axis can be reduced and a spinning motion can be prevented. In addition, when the foot is placed on a bump or a step, a flexible portion deforms and receives it, and a frictional retaining force is generated between the flexible portion and the bump. Thus, the foot is flexibly adapted to the road surface, and sliding caused by the bump and excessively fast motion are prevented. Accordingly, the foot can be adapted to various kinds of road surfaces such as surfaces having bumps and depressions, and the attitude stability can be increased.

  • Patent number: 6775217
Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for generating delays to shift edges of an EFM data stream from an EFM modulator for a CD-R and CD-RW write encoder. EFM data pulse edges may be delayed in increments of about {fraction (1/32)} Tefm where Tefm is the code rate clock of an EFM data stream output. The delays are generated by a synthesizer running at four times the EFM code rate. The synthesizer may be built using a four-stage ring oscillator. Delays are selectable based upon the write strategy matrix in coarse increments of ¼ T and fine increments of {fraction (1/32)} T. For the coarse delay, the EFM data may be passed through a four stage shift register running at Fsynth, where Tefm=4×Fsynth, allowing for a coarse delay selection of ¼ Tefm.

  • Patent number: 6501862
Abstract: A game machine for high-speed execution of iterated transformation decoding based on a drawing command or data loaded from a recording medium. The drawing command, fractal transformation parameters or data loaded from a recording medium 24 are stored in a main memory 21. A drawing texture, expanded on a VRAM 23 in a graphics processing unit 22, is iteratively transformation decoded in accordance with the drawing command or the fractal transformation parameters transferred under control of the CPU 20. The generated texture is displayed as a picture on a CRT 32 of the graphics processing unit. This realizes high-speed iterated transformation decoding of the texture and a restored picture of high picture quality while realizing iterated transformation decoding with a significantly reduced calculation volume.

  • Patent number: 6198851
Abstract: A technique for encoding an interlaced picture comprises the steps of rearraying the interlaced picture on a scanning line basis, splitting the re-arrayed picture into a plurality of first block portions and splitting the re-arrayed picture into a plurality of second block portions. Each second block portion is transform processed to generate a plurality of transformed block portions, and it is determined which transformed block portion is most similar to a preselected first block portion. The second block portion corresponding to the determined transformed block portion is selected, and block position information indicating the position of the selected second block portion and a transformation parameter representing the transform processing of the selected second block portion are output.
