  • Publication number: 20140278014
Abstract: There is provided a system and method for controlling an engine. A request signal indicative of a demand for the engine to output a required power level is first receive. A position control signal is then generated in response to the request signal. The position request signal is indicative of a first request for adjusting a present position of a variable geometry mechanism of the engine towards a commanded position to achieve the required power level. An acceleration rate control signal is further generated on the basis of the position control signal. The acceleration rate control signal is indicative of a second request for adjusting an acceleration rate of the engine in accordance with the commanded position of the variable geometry mechanism. The position control signal and the acceleration rate control signal are then output to the engine.

  • Publication number: 20110248568
Abstract: In methods and apparatuses at least one power supply is connected to at least one functional component. The power supply is also connected to an alternating current power source. The power supply provides power to the functional component when the functional component is operating in a relatively high power mode (normal operating mode). In addition, at least one energy storage device is connected to the functional component. The energy storage device supplies energy storage device power to the functional component when the functional component is operating in a relatively low power mode, such as a sleep mode.

  • Publication number: 20090288506
Abstract: A power actuator is provided for a door latch. A transfer lever within the housing is selectively coupled to a motor-driven worm gear via a lost motion connector. Engaging the motor moves the transfer lever between a locked and an unlocked position, actuating an output lever mounted to a spline on the transfer lever. The worm gear returns to a neutral position when the motor is disengaged, leaving the transfer lever in either the locked or unlocked positions. Manually moving the output lever causes the transfer lever to move between its locked and unlocked positions without back-driving the worm gear. A toggle mechanism prevents the transfer lever from accidentally moving or only moving partially between the locked and unlocked positions.

  • Publication number: 20090162024
Abstract: The invention provides a mechanism to allow users to demarcate a section of a media's timeline at the desire of the user. The system takes an existing media recording (examples include but are not limited to video and audio), obtained through various mechanisms, and allows the user to mark one or more sections of the media's timeline for later reference. The highlighted section data will be stored in such a fashion that the author of the highlights as well as other users may view the highlighted sections of the media while still retaining the ability to experience the media in its entirety. The demarcation data, relating the media to the author of the demarcation, and the demarcation data itself can be stored as meta-data related to the media to be later merged with the media at the time of playback to create the new function of media plus demarcations to be viewed at that time.

  • Publication number: 20090104019
Abstract: A gas turbine engine including a gas generator module and a reduction gearbox module. The gas generator module has an axis which extends longitudinally along a centreline of the gas generator module, and the reduction gearbox module has an axis which extending longitudinally along the centreline of the reduction gearbox and is offset from said generator axis. • Patent number: 7467815
Abstract: A latch (1) for a deck lid includes a load lever (41) that operates after the latch (1) is released to prevent the pawl (22) from immediately returning to a latched position. The load lever (41) acts on a pawl lever (21) which in turn acts on the pawl (22). The load lever (41) enables the latch (1) to release even under load such as that created by a heavy layer of snow on the deck lid. The load lever (41) only operates during the opening cycle of the latch (1) and automatically resets as the ratchet (29) moves to the fully open condition.

  • Publication number: 20070104858
Abstract: A method for lowering serum cholesterol levels, healing a wound, modulating glycaemic response, alleviating constipation, or stimulating the immune system. The method includes administering to a subject in need ?-glucan obtained by forming flour from the cereal grain; mixing the flour with water at a temperature in the range of 25-65° C. to form a slurry of an aqueous solution of ?-glucan and a solid residue; separating the aqueous solution from the solid residue; removing water from the aqueous solution by evaporating or ultrafiltration or combinations thereof to give a concentrated aqueous solution of ?-glucan; and forming a ?-glucan gel from the concentrated aqueous solution of ?-glucan.

  • Patent number: 7111877
Abstract: A latch has a unidirectional power release mechanism. The mechanism has a rotatable gear with a boss on the gear, a motor for rotating the gear to orbit the gear boss through an operating cycle of the mechanism, a ratchet movable from a latched position to an unlatched position, a pawl lever, a pawl, and a toggle which moves between a first toggle position and a second toggle position to set the limits of the operating cycle of the mechanism. The toggle pivots in response to the orbiting gear boss and presents a stop for the gear boss at the end of the operating cycle. The gear boss effects movement of the pawl lever to effect unlatching and stops the orbiting gear boss when it encounters the stop. The toggle is pivoted back removing the stop in response to the ratchet rotating to the latched position.

  • Publication number: 20060170224
Abstract: A hood latch has a mounting plate, a ratchet and pawl assembly, a secondary release lever and a reinforcement plate. The mounting plate has a fishmouth. The ratchet is pivotally mounted to the mounting plate at a first pivot point. The ratchet cooperates with the fishmouth and moves between an unlatched position and a latched position. The ratchet is biased to the unlatched position. The pawl is pivotally mounted to the mounting plate at a second pivot point. The pawl is biased to engage the ratchet and releasably retain the ratchet in the latched position. The secondary release leveris pivotally mounted to the mounting plate at a third pivot point. The secondary release lever is moveable between a secondary latched position closing the fishmouth providing a secondary catch and a release position pivoted away from the fishmouth. The secondary release lever is biased to the secondary latched position.

  • Publication number: 20050203816
Abstract: Method and apparatus provide for electronically processing vehicle location data wherein the vehicle location data specifies a sequence of vehicle locations, and wherein the processing determines if the sequence of vehicle locations form a sequence of the vehicle's travel that is acceptable for the purposes of filing tax reports relating to the vehicle. Processing further provides for determining the acceptability of the sequence according to one or more criteria, and provides a user tools that enable the user to accept or revise the vehicle location data for the unacceptable part of the sequence.
