  • Patent number: 7546069
Abstract: A magnetic roll having longitudinal grooves machined in its rotating sleeve enables a pair of rolls to be rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of a photoreceptor moving through a development zone and a trim blade to be mounted proximate one of the rolls at a trim gap of approximately 0.5 to 0.7 mm. The magnetic roll includes a stationary core with at least one magnet, and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that is mounted about the stationary core so that the sleeve rotates about the stationary core. The sleeve has a relatively smooth surface area between the grooves.

  • Publication number: 20070231018
Abstract: A development station in an electrostatographic imaging machine supports longer operational life without undue variation in the mass of developer on roll parameter. The development station includes a developer housing, for retaining a quantity of developer having semi-conductive carrier particles and toner particles, a first magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the first magnetic roll to transport developer to a photoreceptor, a second magnetic roll having a stationary core with at least one magnet and a sleeve having longitudinal grooves that rotates about the stationary core of the second magnetic roll to receive developer from the first magnetic roll and present the developer to the photoreceptor, the sleeve of the second magnetic roll being fabricated from a material that is softer than the sleeve of the first magnetic roll.

  • Patent number: 7206538
Abstract: In a basic design of a developer unit for electrostatographic printing apparatus, an exit port is defined in the housing of the developer unit, for the passage of waste or surplus toner therethrough. An insert, defining a predetermined spillover barrier height and a predetermined exit angle, is associated with the exit port. Different types of inserts can be provided for operating the basic design of developer unit at different print output speeds, or with different compositions of developer material.

  • Publication number: 20060239710
Abstract: A seal device for a developer system in an electrophotographic printing machine, including: a developer housing containing toner particles; a donor member rotatably mounted in the housing for transferring toner particles to a latent image on a photoreceptive member moving in a process direction; a toner emission system for collecting toner particles with a vacuum; and a seal member, mounted to each end of the housing and in contact with the photoreceptive member, to retain side ways migrating toner particles from escaping each end of the housing thereby substantially reducing toner particles from being emitted past the housing.

  • Patent number: 6671478
Abstract: An improved zero draft cylindrical noise attenuator for electrostatographic printers made of structural foam and having a cylindrical sidewall thicker than 4 mm throughout at least most of its circumference and a gap along the length of its long dimension. The improved attenuator more effectively dampens vibration and is less costly to make.

  • Patent number: 6572801
Abstract: An improved process for injection molding of components having zero draft sides comprising: making a mold having a zero draft cavity and an end-cap to seal the mold; injecting suitable resin material into the mold; foaming the resin material; separating the end-cap section from the cavity section of the mold; and removing the part from the mold. In particular, the zero draft process is intended for manufacture of an improved zero draft cylindrical noise attenuator for electrostatographic printers, said attenuator having a cylindrical sidewall thicker than 4 mm throughout at least most of its circumference; and a gap along the length of its long dimension.

  • Patent number: 5339139
Abstract: A document reproduction system with a first large imaging platen on which documents are scanned by moving an imaging system thereunder, and an automatic document feeding system (ADF) for sequentially feeding documents to a directly adjacent smaller second (removable) imaging platen where the same imaging system may be stationarily positioned. A recess is provided between the opposing edges of the first and second platens extending substantially below their upper surface. The ADF has a document lead edge member extendable down into this recess to positively catch and deflect documents away from the upper surface of the second platen after the documents have been moved over this surface and imaged. The first and second platens are abutting at their lower surfaces, below the notch, to define a contiguous lower surface. The recess may be formed by an inclined beveled end of the first platen.

  • Patent number: 4699497
Abstract: An illumination lamp assembly is provided for scan/illuminating a document during a document scan mode. The assembly includes an elongated lamp partially enclosed by a pair of elliptical reflectors. The lamp ends are centered at the focal point of the two reflectors and the lamp is releaseably secured between fixed end blocks and a retaining bias means arrangement which centers lamp at the reflector focal point and permits adjustment-free removal and replacement. Vibrational strobing of the lamp is decreased by providing at least one elastomeric O-ring around the lamp circumference to increase the lamp stiffness and raise the natural frequency of the lamp into a range where the resonant effects of the strobing are reduced.
