  • Patent number: 9849500
Abstract: A method for manufacture of a metal can body is described in which two or more stretching operations are used so as to reduce the thickness of the central part of a cup base, prior to drawing the cup sidewall and forming a can body. By using two or more stretching operations, it has been found possible to control the thickness of the base without significantly reducing pressure performance of the finished can. Alternative embodiments of apparatus comprising tooling for carrying out this method are also described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 24, 2012
Date of Patent: December 26, 2017
    Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Alain Presset, Keith Alan Vincent, Stuart Alexander Monro
  • Patent number: 9334078
Abstract: A metal can body formed from a base stretching, drawing, and ironing process has a base having a hardness that is greater than the raw sheet, a thickness that is less than raw sheet, and a grain aspect ratio that is elongated relative to the raw sheet.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 17, 2012
Date of Patent: May 10, 2016
    Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Jonathan Riley, Alain Presset, Keith Alan Vincent, Stuart Alexander Monro
  • Patent number: 9327899
Abstract: An aerosol container (1) comprising a body (50) and cone (60) and encasing a composite spout (30) and bag (40) combination. The composite spout (30) has a metal tubular section (10), adapted to accommodate a valve arrangement (70, 75) and a polymer fishtail section (20), adapted to form a leak-proof seal with the bag (40). A product is filled into the bag (40) and propellant is filled into the sealed chamber defined between the outside of the bag (40) and the internal surface of the body (50)/cone (60).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 2013
Date of Patent: May 3, 2016
    Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Mark Greenfield, Keith Alan Vincent, Michael Anthony King, Lee Robert Bradley
