  • Patent number: 6684742
Abstract: A tool for shaping sculpted surfaces where at least one portion of the silhouette of the cutting edge is curved and has a radius of curvature larger than the radius of the tool itself. The profile, or silhouette of the cutting tool may have a constant radius of curvature, or a changing radius of curvature. This invention could be used either for insert-type cutters, or standard, solid cutters. It could potentially also be used for grinding or polishing. In addition, mathematical definitions which can be used for the implementation of these cutters are also presented.
