Patent number: 11037151Abstract: A postage evidencing system for tracking postage amounts for multiple users comprising at least two register set partitions is disclosed. Each of the partitions includes an ascending register holding a number representing a value of postage that can be evidenced by the device, a descending register holding a number representing a value of postage that has been previously evidenced by the device, and an identification representing a source of mail pieces that are evidenced with postage from the partition. A security module limits access to the partitions and registers. The identifier for a selected partition is printed on mail pieces as part of an Information Based Indicia (IBI) to identify the source of the mail pieces.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2017Date of Patent: June 15, 2021Assignee: Stamps.com Inc.Inventors: Craig Ogg, Keith Bussell

Patent number: 7693803Abstract: Systems and methods which implement hybrid postage printer technology are shown. Embodiments provide a postage printing apparatus having a printable area larger than that associated with a postage meter stamp printed thereby and which can accommodate a variety of mail item and other media sizes. Embodiments employ a movable platen to accommodate various media thicknesses. Embodiments accommodate any size mail item or other media using a “C” configuration to allow a mail item or other media to extend beyond the print mechanism in at least three directions. According to an embodiment, the postage printer includes a web browser for hosting postage generation client software and to communicate with a postage generation server via the Internet or other network. Embodiments utilize a commercially available ink cartridge filled with a ink unique to postage metering applications and one or more color ink cartridges.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2005Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Stamps.com Inc.Inventors: J. Patent number: 7641104Abstract: Systems and methods for using information, provided in association with a shipping parcel containing or associated with the goods, by a shipping service provider and a recipient of the goods are shown. According to one embodiment, coded data, such as provided in a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag or barcode, is used to identify the parcel and the goods, either directly or through correlation with other information, such as shipping information and/or inventory information. The coded data is preferably in a format readable by both the shipping service provider and the recipient of the parcel.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2005Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Stamps.com IncInventors: J. Publication number: 20070100672Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention would provide methods and systems for generating and printing an identifier on a sheet of label stock that comprises a plurality of same-sized labels. In the exemplary embodiment, the identifier would comprise an identification of a media type of the sheet of label stock, and would further comprise an identification of an orientation for printing value-bearing item indicia, such as postage indicia, with respect to each label on the sheet of label stock. The orientation for printing value-bearing item indicia, such as postage indicia, would correspond to an orientation selection by a user that ordered the labels (sometimes referred to herein as the “ordering user”).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2006Publication date: May 3, 2007Inventors: Kenneth McBrida, Damon Cleckler, Keith Bussell

Patent number: 6982808Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method and system for printing information onto a print media. In one aspect the present invention may be utilized by an on-line postage system to generate a print job for a virtualized sheet having an image of a envelope contained within a printable region of the virtualized sheet. The print job for the virtualized sheet is then forwarded to a printer which prints the postal indica onto the envelope.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2000Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Assignee: Stamps.comInventors: Craig Leonard Ogg, Keith Bussell

Patent number: 6965451Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method and system for printing information onto a print media. In one aspect the present invention may be utilized by an on-line postage system to query one or more databases, containing set up data on one or more printer drivers, to determine set up data for a user's printer. The present invention may then be used to perform a printer configuration test to determine the set up data for the user's printer if the set up data is not contained in the databases. The present invention then stores the results of the printer configuration test in one or more of the database for use by subsequent users.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2000Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: Stamps.comInventors: Craig Leonard Ogg, Keith Bussell

Patent number: 6692033Abstract: A fluorescent strip window envelope for use with PC postage printed inserts. The envelope has a front wall and a rear wall, a top edge, a bottom edge, a right edge and a left edge. The envelope has a postage indicia window formed in the front wall in an upper right hand region thereof. The envelope is sized to accommodate at least three tri-folded sheets of standard sized letter paper sheets or a standard business courtesy envelope as inserts such that when the insert is inserted into the envelope there is less than about a 5% skew of the insert relative to the envelope and to expose the postage indicia printed on the insert. The envelope is free of FIM marks, and in lieu thereof has fluorescent strips printed on the right side top edge and the upper right side edge of the envelope.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Stamps.comInventors: Christopher P. Miller, Keith Bussell

Patent number: 6461063Abstract: A sheet having at least one self-adhesive special purpose label arrangement set having a postage indicia label, and preferably a sender label and also preferably an addressee label, and a process for printing these special purpose label arrangement sets. The postage indicia label printed by the process is sized and shaped so that it can be applied to a variety of mail pieces, including mail pieces that have FIM patterns, and the printed postage indicia label can be applied to an upper right hand corner of a mail piece without encroaching on the FIM pattern. The invention also provides a process for printing the self-adhesive special purpose label arrangement set with postage indicia, sender information, and addressee information.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2000Date of Patent: October 8, 2002Assignee: Stamps.comInventors: Christopher Patrick Miller, Keith Bussell
