Patent number: 8803031Abstract: A wire drive system includes a wire feed motor for feeding welding wire in a continuous welding process. The wire drive system further includes a controller connected to the wire feed motor for driving the motor responsive to a command signal. The controller is capable of detecting the source of power from which the wire feed motor is driven wherein a first possible source of power is taken from the welding arc and wherein a second possible source of power is taken from the welding power supply.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2009Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: Lincoln Global, Inc.Inventors: Andreu P. Patent number: 8074041Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for managing storage space allocation. The apparatus includes a recognizing module, a reserving module, and a managing module. The recognizing module recognizes a trigger event at a client of the data storage system. The reserving module reserves logical units of space for data storage. The management module manages the logical units of space at the client. Such an arrangement provides for distributed management of storage space allocation within a storage area network (SAN). Facilitating client management of the logical units of space in this manner may reduce the number of required metadata transactions between the client and a metadata server and may increase performance of the SAN file system. Reducing metadata transactions effectively lowers network overhead, while increasing data throughput.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2004Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas Keith Clark, Ramakrishna Dwivedula, Roger C. Patent number: 8055629Abstract: Transitioning a data file in an archive system from read-write to write-once-read-many (“WORM”) is triggered by a control file rather than using a timeout approach or a overload approach. A storage manager may receive a series of archive instructions to write a data file to an archive. During this time, the archive file may be in a read-write state. The storage manager may receive a control file, which may be structured, such as an XML file. Receipt of the control file signals to an storage manager archive system that the data file has been written to the archive and triggers the storage manager to make the data file immutable by switching it from read-write state to WORM state.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2008Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas Keith Clark, Bruce Light Hillsberg, Wayne Curtis Hineman, Bernhard Julius Klingenberg, Robert M. Patent number: 7600649Abstract: Methods and devices for preventing temperature and pressure extrusion failure in o-ring seal assemblies. One embodiment employs a bore in the plug so that the thin wall of the plug flexes outward at high pressures to partially fill the gap between the chamber member and the plug where the o-ring is located, thereby preventing the o-ring from extruding through the narrowed gap. A second embodiment utilizes a plug of a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the chamber member that expands outward slightly at high temperatures, thus partially filling the gap. A third embodiment secures the o-ring in the gap between a backup ring and a retaining ring, and the backup ring has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the plug and chamber member. At high temperatures the backup ring expands to partially fill the gap. Additional embodiments are created by combining these three embodiments.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2005Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventor: Kenneth Keith Clark
