  • Publication number: 20140120900
Abstract: A mobile communications device is configured to store a disable code set and defined by a user of the communications device. In the event that the mobile communications device is lost or stolen, the use contacts the lost or stolen mobile communications device from another communications device, transmitting to the lost or stolen mobile communications device an on-air disable code. Match circuitry in the lost of stolen communications device compares the received disable code to the disable code previously set and stored in the lost or stolen mobile communications device. If the match circuitry determines that the received disable code matches the stored disable code, access to private user data in the lost or stolen mobile communications device is prevented.

  • Patent number: 7715830
Abstract: The present invention permits safeguarding of private data entered into a memory chip of a cell phone by permitting the cell phone owner to erase the data in a lost or stolen phone, using an preset erase code and erase command in the cell phone or the network base station, and disabling or erasing circuitry on the memory chip, preferably an EEPROM chip.

  • Publication number: 20100093395
Abstract: A docking apparatus for a portable communications device includes a cradle adapted to receive and hold a portable communications device, a memory card slot adapted to receive an erasable nonvolatile memory card, and circuitry configured to synchronize private user data stored in a memory of the portable communications device with private user data stored in the erasable nonvolatile memory card. The private user data is synchronized when the portable communications device is being held in the cradle of the portable communications device and after the erasable nonvolatile memory card is inserted in the memory card slot of the docking apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7233791
Abstract: The present invention permits safeguarding of private data entered into a memory chip of a cell phone by permitting the cell phone owner to erase the data in a lost or stolen phone, using an preset erase code and erase command in the cell phone or the network base station, and disabling or erasing circuitry on the memory chip, preferably an EEPROM chip. Further, a user of the cell phone may obtain information of a person or entity, via a cellular communications network, by dialing a directory assistance number and requesting information associated with the name of the person or entity the user has requested information of. The information may be provided to the user in the form of a vcard and may include, among other information, telephone and facsimile numbers, mailing addresses, instant messaging addresses, maps or directions, digital photos or videos, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20070040688
Abstract: A method of manufacturing RFID inlay structures includes providing a strap substrate containing an RFID chip. Strap pad patterns are formed adjacent said recessed regions over contacts of the RFID chip using a directly electroplateable resin (DER). The strap substrate is attached to an inlay substrated having an electrically conductive antenna and antenna contact patterns. The DER strap pad patterns, antenna pattern, antenna contacts and chip contacts are electroplated, thereby forming a metal interconnect between the contacts of the RFID chip and the antenna contacts on the inlay substrate. The strap substrate may be obtained from a web of strap substrates formed by a casting process. The DER material may be in the form of a DER ink and applied using a pen-plotter apparatus to form strap pad patterns or antenna coil patterns on the strap substrate, and to form antenna features and antenna contact patterns on the inlay substrate.

  • Publication number: 20060281450
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for safeguarding data stored on a digital processing system (DPS) capable of communicating with a communications system are disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention when a DPS establishes communication with a communication system, the identification of the DPS is verified and access is provided to security status information pertaining to the DPS. Based upon the security status information, one or more programs are executed on the DPS. For one embodiment of the invention, one or more memory devices of a digital processing system (DPS) may be provided with an erase means. If the DPS is lost or stolen, the user need only establish a communications link with the DPS and enter the erase code to effect erasure (or modification) of specified stored data.

  • Patent number: 5955949
Abstract: A transponder antenna is carried by a substrate and is sandwiched between the substrate and a cover sheet. A rectangular opening extends through the cover sheet and receives a signal processing chip adhesively carried in a recess below a cap which covers the opening. The chip is spaced with respect to the antenna so as to facilitate direct or inductive coupling between the chip and antenna. The cap has a protective portion which extends through the cover opening substantially all the way to the substrate so as to prevent accidental contact between the chip, on one hand, and the substrate and/or antenna on tee other.
